Now when the Lamb opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of those who had been violently killed because of the word of God and because of the testimony they had given.

    7Then he came and took the scroll from the right hand of the one who was seated on the throne,

    8and when he had taken the scroll, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders threw themselves to the ground before the Lamb. Each of them had a harp and golden bowls full of incense(which are the prayers of the saints).

    9They were singing a new song:“You are worthy to take the scroll and to open its seals because you were killed, and at the cost of your own blood you have purchased for God persons from every tribe, language, people, and nation.

  • 21The others were killed by the sword that extended from the mouth of the one who rode the horse, and all the birds gorged themselves with their flesh.

  • 14And the four living creatures were saying“Amen,” and the elders threw themselves to the ground and worshiped.

  • 15For this reason they are before the throne of God, and they serve him day and night in his temple, and the one seated on the throne will shelter them.

  • 19Then I saw the beast and the kings of the earth and their armies assembled to do battle with the one who rode the horse and with his army.
