24When she had weaned him, she took him up with her, with three bulls, and one ephah of meal, and a bottle of wine, and brought him to Yahweh's house in Shiloh. The child was young.
4When the day came that Elkanah sacrificed, he gave to Peninnah his wife, and to all her sons and her daughters, portions:
5but to Hannah he gave a double portion; for he loved Hannah, but Yahweh had shut up her womb.

14Eli said to her, "How long will you be drunken? Put away your wine from you."

27For this child I prayed; and Yahweh has given me my petition which I asked of him.
1Hannah prayed, and said: "My heart exults in Yahweh! My horn is exalted in Yahweh. My mouth is enlarged over my enemies, because I rejoice in your salvation.
14She may not eat of anything that comes of the vine, neither let her drink wine or strong drink, nor eat any unclean thing; all that I commanded her let her observe."
4Now therefore please beware and drink no wine nor strong drink, and don't eat any unclean thing:
18She said, "Drink, my lord." She hurried, and let down her pitcher on her hand, and gave him drink.
7but he said to me, 'Behold, you shall conceive, and bear a son; and now drink no wine nor strong drink, and eat not any unclean thing; for the child shall be a Nazirite to God from the womb to the day of his death.'"
15Now therefore seeing that I have come to speak this word to my lord the king, it is because the people have made me afraid: and your handmaid said, 'I will now speak to the king; it may be that the king will perform the request of his servant.'

21Therefore hear now this, you afflicted, and drunken, but not with wine:

20She said to them, "Don't call me Naomi. Call me Mara; for the Almighty has dealt very bitterly with me.
21I went out full, and Yahweh has brought me home again empty; why do you call me Naomi, since Yahweh has testified against me, and the Almighty has afflicted me?"
20Eli blessed Elkanah and his wife, and said, "Yahweh give you seed of this woman for the petition which was asked of Yahweh." They went to their own home.
21Yahweh visited Hannah, and she conceived, and bore three sons and two daughters. The child Samuel grew before Yahweh.
5Wake up, you drunkards, and weep! Wail, all you drinkers of wine, because of the sweet wine; for it is cut off from your mouth.

5Samuel said, "Gather all Israel to Mizpah, and I will pray for you to Yahweh."
9Have mercy on me, Yahweh, for I am in distress. My eye, my soul, and my body waste away with grief.
15The Lord has set at nothing all my mighty men in the midst of me; He has called a solemn assembly against me to crush my young men: The Lord has trodden as in a winepress the virgin daughter of Judah.
