6Behold, I will stand before you there on the rock in Horeb. You shall strike the rock, and water will come out of it, that the people may drink." Moses did so in the sight of the elders of Israel.

11Yahweh said to Moses, "How long will this people despise me? and how long will they not believe in me, for all the signs which I have worked among them?
32They angered him also at the waters of Meribah, so that Moses was troubled for their sakes;

27"How long [shall I bear] with this evil congregation, that murmur against me? I have heard the murmurings of the children of Israel, which they murmur against me.
7You called in trouble, and I delivered you. I answered you in the secret place of thunder. I tested you at the waters of Meribah." Selah.
27and you murmured in your tents, and said, "Because Yahweh hated us, he has brought us forth out of the land of Egypt, to deliver us into the hand of the Amorites, to destroy us.
8Then Amalek came and fought with Israel in Rephidim.
7Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying,
8"Take the rod, and assemble the congregation, you, and Aaron your brother, and speak to the rock before their eyes, that it give forth its water; and you shall bring forth to them water out of the rock; so you shall give the congregation and their livestock drink."
2There was no water for the congregation: and they assembled themselves together against Moses and against Aaron.
40How often they rebelled against him in the wilderness, and grieved him in the desert!

16From there they traveled to Beer: that is the well of which Yahweh said to Moses, "Gather the people together, and I will give them water."
34The name of that place was called Kibroth Hattaavah, because there they buried the people who lusted.
24"Aaron shall be gathered to his people; for he shall not enter into the land which I have given to the children of Israel, because you rebelled against my word at the waters of Meribah.
2All the children of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron: and the whole congregation said to them, "Would that we had died in the land of Egypt! or would that we had died in this wilderness!
41But on the next day all the congregation of the children of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron, saying, "You have killed Yahweh's people!"
8Don't harden your heart, as at Meribah, as in the day of Massah in the wilderness,
7Remember, don't forget, how you provoked Yahweh your God to wrath in the wilderness: from the day that you went forth out of the land of Egypt, until you came to this place, you have been rebellious against Yahweh.
8Also in Horeb you provoked Yahweh to wrath, and Yahweh was angry with you to destroy you.
15Moses built an altar, and called its name Yahweh our Banner.
20Behold, he struck the rock, so that waters gushed out, and streams overflowed. Can he give bread also? Will he provide flesh for his people?"
