But the house of Israel rebelled against me in the wilderness: they didn't walk in my statutes, and they rejected my ordinances, which if a man keep, he shall live in them; and my Sabbaths they greatly profaned. Then I said I would pour out my wrath on them in the wilderness, to consume them.

Transliteration

And-wayyamrû-against-me bêt-yiśrāʾēl in-the-midbār: in-ḥuqqôtay not-hālākû and-ʾet-mišpāṭay māʾāsû, which yaʿăśeh ʾōtām the-ʾādām and-wāḥay in-them, and-ʾet-šabbĕtōtay ḥillĕlû greatly; and-wāʾōmar lišpōk ḥămātî upon-them in-the-midbār lĕkallôtām.

The plague broke in on them. 30 Then Phinehas stood up, and executed judgment, so the plague was stopped. 31 That was credited to him for righteousness, for all generations to come. 32 They angered him also at the waters of Meribah, so that Moses was troubled for their sakes; 33 because they were rebellious against his spirit, he spoke rashly with his lips.
