9 All the people shall know, [even] Ephraim and the inhabitant of Samaria, who say in pride and in arrogance of heart,
10 The bricks are fallen, but we will build with hewn stone; the sycamores are cut down, but we will put cedars in their place.
1 An oracle. The word of Yahweh is against the land of Hadrach, And will rest upon Damascus; For the eye of man And of all the tribes of Israel is toward Yahweh;
2 And Hamath, also, which borders on it; Tyre and Sidon, because they are very wise.

11 Out of that land he went forth into Assyria, and built Nineveh, Rehoboth Ir, Calah,
12 and Resen between Nineveh and Calah (the same is the great city).
3 Thus says Yahweh: "For three transgressions of Damascus, yes, for four, I will not turn away its punishment; Because they have threshed Gilead with threshing instruments of iron;
24 The king of Assyria brought men from Babylon, and from Cuthah, and from Avva, and from Hamath and Sepharvaim, and placed them in the cities of Samaria instead of the children of Israel; and they possessed Samaria, and lived in the cities of it.

23 Of Damascus. Hamath is confounded, and Arpad; for they have heard evil news, they are melted away: there is sorrow on the sea; it can't be quiet.
