Og Herren sa til Moses: Gå inn til faraoen, for jeg har forherdet hans hjerte, og hjertene til hans tjenere, så jeg kan vise mine tegn for ham.

And the LORD said unto Moses, Go in unto Pharaoh: for I have hardened his heart, and the heart of his servants, that I might shew these my signs before him:

Og slik at du kan fortelle dine sønner og dine sønnesønner om hva jeg har gjort i Egypt, og mine tegn som jeg har utført blant dem, slik at dere skal vite at jeg er Herren.

And that thou mayest tell in the ears of thy son, and of thy son's son, what things I have wrought in Egypt, and my signs which I have done among them; that ye may know how that I am the LORD.

Så gikk Moses og Aron til faraoen og sa til ham: Så sier Herren, hebreernes Gud: Hvor lenge vil du nekte å ydmyke deg for meg? La mitt folk dra, slik at de kan tjene meg.

And Moses and Aaron came in unto Pharaoh, and said unto him, Thus saith the LORD God of the Hebrews, How long wilt thou refuse to humble thyself before me? let my people go, that they may serve me.

For dersom du nekter å la mitt folk dra, se, i morgen vil jeg føre gresshopper inn i ditt land.

Else, if thou refuse to let my people go, behold, to morrow will I bring the locusts into thy coast:

Og de skal dekke jordens overflate så man ikke kan se bakken, og de skal spise resten av alt som er igjen etter haglet, og skal fortære hvert tre som vokser på marken for dere.

And they shall cover the face of the earth, that one cannot be able to see the earth: and they shall eat the residue of that which is escaped, which remaineth unto you from the hail, and shall eat every tree which groweth for you out of the field:

De skal fylle dine hus, husene til alle dine tjenere og husene til alle egypterne, noe som verken dine fedre eller dine forfedre har sett, fra den dagen de var på jorden og til denne dag. Og han snudde seg og gikk ut fra faraoen.

And they shall fill thy houses, and the houses of all thy servants, and the houses of all the Egyptians; which neither thy fathers, nor thy fathers' fathers have seen, since the day that they were upon the earth unto this day. And he turned himself, and went out from Pharaoh.

Da sa faraos tjenere til ham: Hvor lenge skal denne mannen være en snare for oss? La mennene dra, så de kan tjene Herren deres Gud. Forstår du ikke at Egypt er ødelagt?

And Pharaoh's servants said unto him, How long shall this man be a snare unto us? let the men go, that they may serve the LORD their God: knowest thou not yet that Egypt is destroyed?

Da ble Moses og Aron ført tilbake til faraoen, og han sa til dem: Gå, tjen Herren deres Gud. Men hvem er det som skal dra?

And Moses and Aaron were brought again unto Pharaoh: and he said unto them, Go, serve the LORD your God: but who are they that shall go?

Og Moses sa: Vi vil dra med våre unge og våre gamle, med våre sønner og våre døtre, med våre sauer og kyr, for vi skal holde en høytid for Herren.

And Moses said, We will go with our young and with our old, with our sons and with our daughters, with our flocks and with our herds will we go; for we must hold a feast unto the LORD.

Og han sa til dem: Måtte Herren være med dere på samme måte som jeg vil la dere og deres små dra. Se til, for onde ting ligger foran dere.

And he said unto them, Let the LORD be so with you, as I will let you go, and your little ones: look to it; for evil is before you.

Nei, gå kun dere menn og tjen Herren, for det er det dere ønsket. Og de ble drevet bort fra faraos nærvær.

Not so: go now ye that are men, and serve the LORD; for that ye did desire. And they were driven out from Pharaoh's presence.

Og Herren sa til Moses: Rekk ut din hånd over Egypts land for å tilkalle gresshopperne, slik at de skal komme over Egypts land og ete alle urter som finnes i landet, alt som haglet har etterlatt.

And the LORD said unto Moses, Stretch out thine hand over the land of Egypt for the locusts, that they may come up upon the land of Egypt, and eat every herb of the land, even all that the hail hath left.

Og Moses strakte ut sin stav over Egypts land, og Herren brakte en østavind over landet hele dagen og hele natten. Da det ble morgen, hadde østavinden ført gresshoppene med seg.

And Moses stretched forth his rod over the land of Egypt, and the LORD brought an east wind upon the land all that day, and all that night; and when it was morning, the east wind brought the locusts.

Og gresshoppene kom over hele Egypts land og slo seg ned over hele Egypt, svært mange var de; før dem hadde det aldri vært slike gresshopper, og heller ikke etter dem vil det komme slike.

And the locusts went up over all the land of Egypt, and rested in all the coasts of Egypt: very grievous were they; before them there were no such locusts as they, neither after them shall be such.

For de dekket hele jordens overflate så landet ble mørkt, og de åt alle urter i landet og all frukten på trærne som haglet hadde latt være igjen. Det ble ikke igjen noe grønt på trærne eller urtene på marken i hele Egypts land.

For they covered the face of the whole earth, so that the land was darkened; and they did eat every herb of the land, and all the fruit of the trees which the hail had left: and there remained not any green thing in the trees, or in the herbs of the field, through all the land of Egypt.

Da kalte faraoen raskt på Moses og Aron, og sa: Jeg har syndet mot Herren deres Gud og mot dere.

Then Pharaoh called for Moses and Aaron in haste; and he said, I have sinned against the LORD your God, and against you.

Derfor, tilgi nå min synd bare denne ene gangen og be til Herren deres Gud at han må ta bort denne døden fra meg.

Now therefore forgive, I pray thee, my sin only this once, and intreat the LORD your God, that he may take away from me this death only.

Og han gikk ut fra faraoen og ba til Herren.

And he went out from Pharaoh, and intreated the LORD.

Og Herren sendte en sterk vestavind som tok gresshoppene og kastet dem i Rødehavet. Ikke én gresshoppe ble igjen i hele Egypts land.

And the LORD turned a mighty strong west wind, which took away the locusts, and cast them into the Red sea; there remained not one locust in all the coasts of Egypt.

Men Herren forherdet faraos hjerte, så han ikke ville la Israels barn dra.

But the LORD hardened Pharaoh's heart, so that he would not let the children of Israel go.

Og Herren sa til Moses: Rekk ut din hånd mot himmelen, så det kan bli mørke over hele Egypts land, et mørke som kan føles.

And the LORD said unto Moses, Stretch out thine hand toward heaven, that there may be darkness over the land of Egypt, even darkness which may be felt.

Og Moses strakte ut sin hånd mot himmelen, og det ble et tett mørke i hele Egypts land i tre dager.

And Moses stretched forth his hand toward heaven; and there was a thick darkness in all the land of Egypt three days:

De kunne ikke se hverandre, og i tre dager reiste ingen seg fra sin plass. Men alle Israels barn hadde lys i sine boliger.

They saw not one another, neither rose any from his place for three days: but all the children of Israel had light in their dwellings.

Da kalte faraoen på Moses og sa: Gå, tjen Herren. Bare la flokkene og buskapene deres bli igjen. Også de små kan dra med dere.

And Pharaoh called unto Moses, and said, Go ye, serve the LORD; only let your flocks and your herds be stayed: let your little ones also go with you.

Og Moses svarte: Du må også gi oss slaktoffer og brennoffer, slik at vi kan ofre til Herren vår Gud.

And Moses said, Thou must give us also sacrifices and burnt offerings, that we may sacrifice unto the LORD our God.

Vår buskap skal også dra med oss, ikke en klauv skal bli igjen. For vi må ta noe av dem for å tjene Herren vår Gud, og vi vet ikke hva vi skal ofre til Herren før vi kommer dit.

Our cattle also shall go with us; there shall not an hoof be left behind; for thereof must we take to serve the LORD our God; and we know not with what we must serve the LORD, until we come thither.

Men Herren forherdet faraos hjerte, og han ville ikke la dem dra.

But the LORD hardened Pharaoh's heart, and he would not let them go.

Da sa faraoen til Moses: Gå bort fra meg! Pass deg at du ikke ser meg i ansiktet igjen, for den dagen du ser mitt ansikt, skal du dø.

And Pharaoh said unto him, Get thee from me, take heed to thyself, see my face no more; for in that day thou seest my face thou shalt die.

Da sa Moses: Du har talt riktig, jeg skal ikke se ditt ansikt igjen.

And Moses said, Thou hast spoken well, I will see thy face again no more.
