Så sa David: Dette er huset for Herren Gud, og dette er alteret for brennoffer for Israel.

Then David said, This is the house of Jehovah God, and this is the altar of burnt-offering for Israel.

David befalte å samle de fremmede som var i Israels land; og han satte steinhuggere til å forme bearbeidede steiner for å bygge Guds hus.

And David commanded to gather together the sojourners that were in the land of Israel; and he set masons to hew wrought stones to build the house of God.

David forberedte jern i store mengder til spiker for dørene til portene, og til festene; og kobber i mengder uten mål;

And David prepared iron in abundance for the nails for the doors of the gates, and for the couplings; and brass in abundance without weight;

og sedertrær uten tall; for sidonierne og de fra Tyros brakte mange sedertrær til David.

and cedar-trees without number: for the Sidonians and they of Tyre brought cedar-trees in abundance to David.

David sa: Salomo, min sønn, er ung og uerfaren, og huset som skal bygges for Herren må være overmåte praktfullt, kjent og herlig i alle land. Derfor vil jeg gjøre forberedelser til det. Så gjorde David store forberedelser før sin død.

And David said, Solomon my son is young and tender, and the house that is to be builded for Jehovah must be exceeding magnificent, of fame and of glory throughout all countries: I will therefore make preparation for it. So David prepared abundantly before his death.

Så kalte han på Salomo, sin sønn, og påla ham å bygge et hus for Herren, Israels Gud.

Then he called for Solomon his son, and charged him to build a house for Jehovah, the God of Israel.

David sa til Salomo, sin sønn: Det var i mitt hjerte å bygge et hus for Herrens, min Guds, navn.

And David said to Solomon his son, As for me, it was in my heart to build a house unto the name of Jehovah my God.

Men Herrens ord kom til meg og sa: Du har utøst mye blod og ført store kriger; du skal ikke bygge et hus for mitt navn, for du har utøst mye blod på jorden for mitt åsyn.

But the word of Jehovah came to me, saying, Thou hast shed blood abundantly, and hast made great wars: thou shalt not build a house unto my name, because thou hast shed much blood upon the earth in my sight.

Se, en sønn skal fødes til deg, som skal være en mann av fred; og jeg vil gi ham fred fra alle hans fiender rundt omkring; for hans navn skal være Salomo, og jeg vil gi Israel fred og ro i hans dager.

Behold, a son shall be born to thee, who shall be a man of rest; and I will give him rest from all his enemies round about; for his name shall be Solomon, and I will give peace and quietness unto Israel in his days:

Han skal bygge et hus for mitt navn; og han skal være min sønn, og jeg vil være hans far; og jeg vil etablere hans kongedømmes trone over Israel for alltid.

he shall build a house for my name; and he shall be my son, and I will be his father; and I will establish the throne of his kingdom over Israel for ever.

Nå, min sønn, Herren være med deg; og må du lykkes, og bygg huset for Herren din Gud, slik han har talt om deg.

Now, my son, Jehovah be with thee; and prosper thou, and build the house of Jehovah thy God, as he hath spoken concerning thee.

Bare Herren gi deg klokskap og innsikt, og gi deg ansvar for Israel, slik at du kan holde Herrens, din Guds, lov.

Only Jehovah give thee discretion and understanding, and give thee charge concerning Israel; that so thou mayest keep the law of Jehovah thy God.

Da skal du lykkes, hvis du er oppmerksom på å følge lovene og budene som Herren ga Moses angående Israel: Vær sterk og ved godt mot; frykt ikke, og bli ikke motløs.

Then shalt thou prosper, if thou observe to do the statutes and the ordinances which Jehovah charged Moses with concerning Israel: be strong, and of good courage; fear not, neither be dismayed.

Se, i mitt livs nød har jeg forberedt til Herrens hus hundre tusen talenter av gull, og tusen tusen talenter av sølv, og av kobber og jern uten mål; for det er i overflod: trevirke og stein har jeg også forberedt; og du kan legge til det.

Now, behold, in my affliction I have prepared for the house of Jehovah a hundred thousand talents of gold, and a thousand thousand talents of silver, and of brass and iron without weight; for it is in abundance: timber also and stone have I prepared; and thou mayest add thereto.

Dessuten er det mange arbeidere med deg, hoggere og arbeidere av stein og tre, og alle som er dyktige i alle slags arbeid.

Moreover there are workmen with thee in abundance, hewers and workers of stone and timber, and all men that are skilful in every manner of work:

Av gullet, sølvet, kobberet og jernet er det ingen tall. Stå opp og sett i gang, og Herren være med deg.

of the gold, the silver, and the brass, and the iron, there is no number. Arise and be doing, and Jehovah be with thee.

David befalte også alle Israels fyrster å hjelpe Salomo, hans sønn, og sa:

David also commanded all the princes of Israel to help Solomon his son, `saying',

Er ikke Herren deres Gud med dere? Og har han ikke gitt dere fred på alle kanter? For han har gitt landets innbyggere i min hånd; og landet er underlagt Herren og hans folk.

Is not Jehovah your God with you? and hath he not given you rest on every side? for he hath delivered the inhabitants of the land into my hand; and the land is subdued before Jehovah, and before his people.

Sett nå deres hjerte og sjel til å søke Herren deres Gud; stå derfor opp og bygg helligdommen for Herren Gud, for å føre Herrens paktark og Guds hellige kar inn i huset som skal bygges for Herrens navn.

Now set your heart and your soul to seek after Jehovah your God; arise therefore, and build ye the sanctuary of Jehovah God, to bring the ark of the covenant of Jehovah, and the holy vessels of God, into the house that is to be built to the name of Jehovah.
