Vi takker alltid Gud for dere alle, når vi nevner dere i våre bønner;

We give thanks to God always for you all, making mention of you in our prayers;

Vi husker uavbrutt deres trofaste arbeid, kjærlige slit, og tålmodige håp i vår Herre Jesus Kristus, for Guds og vår Fars ansikt.

Remembering without ceasing your work of faith, and labour of love, and patience of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ, in the sight of God and our Father;

Vi vet, kjære brødre, om deres utvelgelse av Gud.

Knowing, brethren beloved, your election of God.

For vårt evangelium kom til dere ikke bare med ord, men også med kraft, i Den Hellige Ånd og med full visshet; slik dere vet hvordan vi var blant dere for deres skyld.

For our gospel came not unto you in word only, but also in power, and in the Holy Ghost, and in much assurance; as ye know what manner of men we were among you for your sake.

Dere ble etterfølgere av oss og av Herren, da dere tok imot ordet under mye trengsel, med Den Hellige Ånds glede.

And ye became followers of us, and of the Lord, having received the word in much affliction, with joy of the Holy Ghost:

Så dere ble eksempler for alle de troende i Makedonia og Akaia.

So that ye were ensamples to all that believe in Macedonia and Achaia.

For fra dere har Herrens ord lydd ut, ikke alene i Makedonia og Akaia, men også på alle steder har deres tro på Gud blitt kjent; slik at vi ikke behøver å si noe.

For from you sounded out the word of the Lord not only in Macedonia and Achaia, but also in every place your faith to God-ward is spread abroad; so that we need not to speak any thing.

For de forteller selv om hvordan vi kom til dere, og hvordan dere vendte dere til Gud fra avgudene for å tjene den levende og sanne Gud;

For they themselves shew of us what manner of entering in we had unto you, and how ye turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God;

og for å vente på hans Sønn fra himmelen, som han reiste opp fra de døde, nemlig Jesus, som frelser oss fra den kommende vrede.

And to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead, even Jesus, which delivered us from the wrath to come.
