Og det skjedde i det ellevte året, i den tredje måneden, på den første dagen i måneden, at Herrens ord kom til meg og sa,

And it came to pass in the eleventh year, in the third month, in the first day of the month, that the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,

Menneskesønn, tal til farao, kongen av Egypt, og til hans store folkemengde: Hvem er du som i din storhet ligner?

Son of man, speak unto Pharaoh king of Egypt, and to his multitude; Whom art thou like in thy greatness?

Se, assyreren var som en sedertre i Libanon med vakre grener, en beskyttende skygge og av høy vekst; og toppen nådde opp blant de tette grenene.

Behold, the Assyrian was a cedar in Lebanon with fair branches, and with a shadowing shroud, and of an high stature; and his top was among the thick boughs.

Vannet gjorde ham stor, dypet hevet ham opp med sine elver som rant rundt om hans plantinger, og sendte ut sine elver til alle trærne på marken.

The waters made him great, the deep set him up on high with her rivers running round about his plants, and sent out her little rivers unto all the trees of the field.

Derfor var hans høyde større enn alle trærne på marken, og hans grener var tallrike, og hans grener ble lange på grunn av mengden av vann når de strakte seg ut.

Therefore his height was exalted above all the trees of the field, and his boughs were multiplied, and his branches became long because of the multitude of waters, when he shot forth.

Alle himmelens fugler bygde sine reder i hans grener, og under hans grener fødte alle markens dyr sine unger, og under hans skygge bodde alle store nasjoner.

All the fowls of heaven made their nests in his boughs, and under his branches did all the beasts of the field bring forth their young, and under his shadow dwelt all great nations.

Slik var han vakker i sin storhet, i lengden av sine grener, for hans rot var ved store vann.

Thus was he fair in his greatness, in the length of his branches: for his root was by great waters.

Sedertrærne i Guds hage kunne ikke skjule ham: grantrærne var ikke som hans grener, og kastanjetrærne var ikke som hans greiner; intet tre i Guds hage var som ham i skjønnhet.

The cedars in the garden of God could not hide him: the fir trees were not like his boughs, and the chesnut trees were not like his branches; nor any tree in the garden of God was like unto him in his beauty.

Jeg har gjort ham vakker ved mangfoldet av hans grener, så alle Edens trær, som var i Guds hage, misunte ham.

I have made him fair by the multitude of his branches: so that all the trees of Eden, that were in the garden of God, envied him.

Derfor sier Herren Gud: Fordi du har hevet deg i høyden, og han har strukket sin topp blant de tette grenene, og hans hjerte har blitt stolt av hans høyde,

Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Because thou hast lifted up thyself in height, and he hath shot up his top among the thick boughs, and his heart is lifted up in his height;

har jeg derfor gitt ham i hendene på den mektige i folket; han skal sikkert gjøre med ham som han vil: jeg har drevet ham ut for hans ondskap.

I have therefore delivered him into the hand of the mighty one of the heathen; he shall surely deal with him: I have driven him out for his wickedness.

Fremmede, de fryktinngytende blant nasjonene, har hogget ham ned og forlatt ham: på fjellene og i alle dalene er hans grener falt, og hans boughs er brutt av ved alle landets elver; og alle jordens folk har gått bort fra hans skygge og har forlatt ham.

And strangers, the terrible of the nations, have cut him off, and have left him: upon the mountains and in all the valleys his branches are fallen, and his boughs are broken by all the rivers of the land; and all the people of the earth are gone down from his shadow, and have left him.

På hans ruin skal alle himmelens fugler forbli, og alle markens dyr skal være på hans grener.

Upon his ruin shall all the fowls of the heaven remain, and all the beasts of the field shall be upon his branches:

For at alle trærne ved vann ikke skal opphøye seg for sin høyde, heller ikke skyte sine topper blant de tette grenene, heller ikke deres trær skal stå opp i sin høyde, alle som drikker vann: for de er alle overgitt til døden, til jordens dypere deler, midt blant menneskenes barn, med dem som går ned i graven.

To the end that none of all the trees by the waters exalt themselves for their height, neither shoot up their top among the thick boughs, neither their trees stand up in their height, all that drink water: for they are all delivered unto death, to the nether parts of the earth, in the midst of the children of men, with them that go down to the pit.

Så sier Herren Gud: På den dagen da han gikk ned til graven, fikk jeg sorg til å komme: jeg dekket dypet for ham, og jeg holdt tilbake flommene derav, og de store vannene ble stoppet: og jeg fikk Libanon til å sørge for ham, og alle markens trær visnet for ham.

Thus saith the Lord GOD; In the day when he went down to the grave I caused a mourning: I covered the deep for him, and I restrained the floods thereof, and the great waters were stayed: and I caused Lebanon to mourn for him, and all the trees of the field fainted for him.

Jeg fikk nasjonene til å skjelve ved lyden av hans fall, da jeg kastet ham ned til dødsriket med dem som stiger ned i graven: og alle Edens trær, de utvalgte og beste av Libanon, alle som drikker vann, ble trøstet i jordens dypere deler.

I made the nations to shake at the sound of his fall, when I cast him down to hell with them that descend into the pit: and all the trees of Eden, the choice and best of Lebanon, all that drink water, shall be comforted in the nether parts of the earth.

De gikk også ned til dødsriket med ham, med dem som blir drept med sverdet; de som var hans armer, som bodde under hans skygge midt blant hedningene.

They also went down into hell with him unto them that be slain with the sword; and they that were his arm, that dwelt under his shadow in the midst of the heathen.

Hvem ligner du da i herlighet og storhet blant Edens trær? Likevel skal du bli brakt ned med Edens trær til jordens dypere deler: du skal ligge midt blant de uomskårne med dem som blir drept med sverdet. Dette er farao og hele hans mylder, sier Herren Gud.

To whom art thou thus like in glory and in greatness among the trees of Eden? yet shalt thou be brought down with the trees of Eden unto the nether parts of the earth: thou shalt lie in the midst of the uncircumcised with them that be slain by the sword. This is Pharaoh and all his multitude, saith the Lord GOD.
