Det året da Tartan kom til Asdod, (da Sargon, kongen av Assyria, sendte ham,) og kjempet mot Asdod og inntok det,

In the year that Tartan came unto Ashdod, (when Sargon the king of Assyria sent him,) and fought against Ashdod, and took it;

talte Herren ved Jesaja, sønn av Amos, og sa: Gå og løs sekkeklærne fra dine lender og ta av skoen fra din fot. Og han gjorde det, og gikk naken og barbent.

At the same time spake the LORD by iah the son of Amoz, saying, Go and loose the sackcloth from off thy loins, and put off thy shoe from thy foot. And he did so, walking naked and barefoot.

Og Herren sa: Slik min tjener Jesaja har gått naken og barbent i tre år som et tegn og et varsel for Egypt og Etiopia,

And the LORD said, Like as my servant iah hath walked naked and barefoot three years for a sign and wonder upon Egypt and upon Ethiopia;

slik skal kongen av Assyria føre egypterne som fanger, og etiopierne som krigsfanger, unge og gamle, nakne og barbeinte, ja, med baken avdekket, til Egypts skam.

So shall the king of Assyria lead away the Egyptians prisoners, and the Ethiopians captives, young and old, naked and barefoot, even with their buttocks uncovered, to the shame of Egypt.

Og de skal bli redde og skamme seg over Etiopia, deres håp, og Egypt, deres stolthet.

And they shall be afraid and ashamed of Ethiopia their expectation, and of Egypt their glory.

Og innbyggerne på denne øya skal si på den dagen: Se, slik er vår forventning, hvor vi flyr for å søke hjelp for å bli reddet fra Assyrias konge: og hvordan skal vi unnslippe?

And the inhabitant of this isle shall say in that day, Behold, such is our expectation, whither we flee for help to be delivered from the king of Assyria: and how shall we escape?
