The word that came to emiah from the LORD in the tenth year of Zedekiah king of Judah, which was the eighteenth year of Nebuchadrezzar.

Den gang var Babylons konges hær beleiret Jerusalem, og profeten Jeremia ble holdt innesperret i vaktgården, som var i Juda-kongens hus.

For then the king of Babylon's army besieged usalem: and emiah the prophet was shut up in the court of the prison, which was in the king of Judah's house.

For Sidkia, Judas konge, hadde stengt ham inne og sagt: Hvorfor profeterer du og sier: Så sier Herren: Se, jeg vil overgi denne byen i hendene på Babylons konge, og han skal ta den?

For Zedekiah king of Judah had shut him up, saying, Wherefore dost thou prophesy, and say, Thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will give this city into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he shall take it;

Og Sidkia, Judas konge, skal ikke unnslippe kaldeernes hånd, men han skal bli overgitt i hendene på Babylons konge. Han skal tale ansikt til ansikt med ham, og hans øyne skal se hans øyne.

And Zedekiah king of Judah shall not escape out of the hand of the Chaldeans, but shall surely be delivered into the hand of the king of Babylon, and shall speak with him mouth to mouth, and his eyes shall behold his eyes;

And he shall lead Zedekiah to Babylon, and there shall he be until I visit him, saith the LORD: though ye fight with the Chaldeans, ye shall not prosper?

And emiah said, The word of the LORD came unto me, saying,

Se, Hanamel, din onkel Shallums sønn, skal komme til deg og si: Kjøp min åker som er i Anatot, for retten til å innløse den er din.

Behold, Hanameel the son of Shallum thine uncle shall come unto thee, saying, Buy thee my field that is in Anathoth: for the right of redemption is thine to buy it.

Så kom Hanamel, min onkels sønn, til meg i vaktgården, i samsvar med Herrens ord, og sa til meg: Kjøp, vær så snill, min åker som er i Anatot, som ligger i Benjamins land, for retten til arv er din, og innløsningen er din; kjøp den for deg selv. Da visste jeg at dette var Herrens ord.

So Hanameel mine uncle's son came to me in the court of the prison according to the word of the LORD, and said unto me, Buy my field, I pray thee, that is in Anathoth, which is in the country of Benjamin: for the right of inheritance is thine, and the redemption is thine; buy it for thyself. Then I knew that this was the word of the LORD.

Og jeg kjøpte åkeren av Hanamel, min onkels sønn, som var i Anatot, og veide opp pengene til ham, sytten sekel sølv.

And I bought the field of Hanameel my uncle's son, that was in Anathoth, and weighed him the money, even seventeen shekels of silver.

Og jeg skrev det i en pakt, forseglet den, tok vitner og veide pengene opp i vektskåler.

And I subscribed the evidence, and sealed it, and took witnesses, and weighed him the money in the balances.

Så tok jeg dokumentet for kjøpet, både det som var forseglet i henhold til lov og sedvane, og det som var åpent.

So I took the evidence of the purchase, both that which was sealed according to the law and custom, and that which was open:

And I gave the evidence of the purchase unto Baruch the son of Neriah, the son of Maaseiah, in the sight of Hanameel mine uncle's son, and in the presence of the witnesses that subscribed the book of the purchase, before all the Jews that sat in the court of the prison.

Og jeg bød Baruk foran dem, og sa:

And I charged Baruch before them, saying,

Så sier Herren, hærskarenes Gud, Israels Gud: Ta dette dokumentet, denne kjøpspakte, både den som er forseglet og den som er åpen, og legg dem i en leirkrukke, for at de kan vare i mange dager.

Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Take these evidences, this evidence of the purchase, both which is sealed, and this evidence which is open; and put them in an earthen vessel, that they may continue many days.

For så sier Herren, hærskarenes Gud, Israels Gud: Hus og åkre og vingårder skal igjen bli eid i dette landet.

For thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Houses and fields and vineyards shall be possessed again in this land.

Da jeg hadde levert dokumentet for kjøpet til Baruk, Nerias sønn, ba jeg til Herren og sa:

Now when I had delivered the evidence of the purchase unto Baruch the son of Neriah, I prayed unto the LORD, saying,

Å, Herre Gud! Se, du har skapt himmelen og jorden ved din store kraft og utstrakte arm, og ingenting er for vanskelig for deg.

Ah Lord GOD! behold, thou hast made the heaven and the earth by thy great power and stretched out arm, and there is nothing too hard for thee:

Du viser kjærlighet mot tusener, men gjengjelder fedrenes misgjerning i deres barns fang etter dem. Den store Gud, den mektige, hærskarenes Herre er hans navn.

Thou shewest lovingkindness unto thousands, and recompensest the iniquity of the fathers into the bosom of their children after them: the Great, the Mighty God, the LORD of hosts, is his name,

Stor i råd og mektig i gjerning, for dine øyne er åpne for alle menneskers veier, for å gi enhver etter hans veier og frukten av hans gjerninger.

Great in counsel, and mighty in work: for thine eyes are open upon all the ways of the sons of men: to give every one according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings:

Du har gjort tegn og under i Egyptens land, og det er som det er i dag, i Israel og blant andre mennesker, og du har gjort deg et navn, som på denne dag.

Which hast set signs and wonders in the land of Egypt, even unto this day, and in Israel, and among other men; and hast made thee a name, as at this day;

Og du førte ditt folk Israel ut av Egyptens land med tegn, under, sterk hånd og utstrakt arm og med stor frykt.

And hast brought forth thy people Israel out of the land of Egypt with signs, and with wonders, and with a strong hand, and with a stretched out arm, and with great terror;

Og du gav dem dette landet, som du sverget til deres fedre å gi dem, et land som flyter med melk og honning.

And hast given them this land, which thou didst swear to their fathers to give them, a land flowing with milk and honey;

Og de kom inn og tok det i eie, men de har ikke lyttet til din røst og ikke fulgt din lov. De har ikke gjort noe av det du befalte dem å gjøre. Derfor har du brakt all denne ulykken over dem.

And they came in, and possessed it; but they obeyed not thy voice, neither walked in thy law; they have done nothing of all that thou commandedst them to do: therefore thou hast caused all this evil to come upon them:

Se, beleiringens voller har nådd byen for å innta den, og byen er overgitt i hendene på kaldeerne som kjemper mot den, på grunn av sverdet, hungersnøden og pesten. Det du har talt om, har skjedd, og se, du ser det.

Behold the mounts, they are come unto the city to take it; and the city is given into the hand of the Chaldeans, that fight against it, because of the sword, and of the famine, and of the pestilence: and what thou hast spoken is come to pass; and, behold, thou seest it.

Og du har sagt til meg, Å, Herre Gud, kjøp denne åkeren for penger, og ta vitner, selv om byen er overgitt til kaldeernes hånd.

And thou hast said unto me, O Lord GOD, Buy thee the field for money, and take witnesses; for the city is given into the hand of the Chaldeans.

Så kom Herrens ord til Jeremia og sa:

Then came the word of the LORD unto emiah, saying,

Se, jeg er Herren, alt kjøds Gud. Er noe for vanskelig for meg?

Behold, I am the LORD, the God of all flesh: is there any thing too hard for me?

Derfor, så sier Herren: Se, jeg vil gi denne byen i hendene på kaldeerne og i hendene på Nebukadnesar, Babels konge, og han skal ta den.

Therefore thus saith the LORD; Behold, I will give this city into the hand of the Chaldeans, and into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, and he shall take it:

Og kaldeerne som kjemper mot denne byen, skal komme og sette fyr på den og brenne den opp med de husene som de har ofret røkelse til Baal på takene, og utøst drikkoffere til andre guder for å gjøre meg sint.

And the Chaldeans, that fight against this city, shall come and set fire on this city, and burn it with the houses, upon whose roofs they have offered incense unto Baal, and poured out drink offerings unto other gods, to provoke me to anger.

For Israels barn og Judas barn har kun gjort det som er ondt foran meg fra sin ungdom av. For Israels barn har kun opprørt meg med sine henders gjerninger, sier Herren.

For the children of Israel and the children of Judah have only done evil before me from their youth: for the children of Israel have only provoked me to anger with the work of their hands, saith the LORD.

For denne byen har vært for meg en provokasjon til min vrede og min harme fra den dagen de bygde den, selv til denne dag, for at jeg skulle fjerne den fra mitt ansikt,

For this city hath been to me as a provocation of mine anger and of my fury from the day that they built it even unto this day; that I should remove it from before my face,

på grunn av all ondskapen til Israels barn og Judas barn, som har gjort for å gjøre meg sint, de, deres konger, deres fyrster, deres prester, deres profeter, Judas menn og Jerusalems innbyggere.

Because of all the evil of the children of Israel and of the children of Judah, which they have done to provoke me to anger, they, their kings, their princes, their priests, and their prophets, and the men of Judah, and the inhabitants of usalem.

Og de har vendt meg ryggen og ikke ansiktet, selv om jeg har lært dem ved å stå opp tidlig og undervise dem, men de har ikke lyttet for å ta imot lære.

And they have turned unto me the back, and not the face: though I taught them, rising up early and teaching them, yet they have not hearkened to receive instruction.

But they set their abominations in the house, which is called by my name, to defile it.

And they built the high places of Baal, which are in the valley of the son of Hinnom, to cause their sons and their daughters to pass through the fire unto Molech; which I commanded them not, neither came it into my mind, that they should do this abomination, to cause Judah to sin.

And now therefore thus saith the LORD, the God of Israel, concerning this city, whereof ye say, It shall be delivered into the hand of the king of Babylon by the sword, and by the famine, and by the pestilence;

Se, jeg vil samle dem fra alle de landene jeg har drevet dem til i min vrede, i min harme og i stor vrede, og jeg vil bringe dem tilbake til dette stedet, og jeg vil få dem til å bo i trygghet.

Behold, I will gather them out of all countries, whither I have driven them in mine anger, and in my fury, and in great wrath; and I will bring them again unto this place, and I will cause them to dwell safely:

De skal være mitt folk, og jeg vil være deres Gud.

And they shall be my people, and I will be their God:

Og jeg vil gi dem ett hjerte og en vei, så de kan frykte meg alltid, til det gode for dem og deres barn etter dem.

And I will give them one heart, and one way, that they may fear me for ever, for the good of them, and of their children after them:

Og jeg vil inngå en evig pakt med dem, at jeg ikke vil vende meg bort fra dem for å gjøre dem godt, men jeg vil legge min frykt i deres hjerter, så de ikke viker fra meg.

And I will make an everlasting covenant with them, that I will not turn away from them, to do them good; but I will put my fear in their hearts, that they shall not depart from me.

Ja, jeg vil glede meg over dem for å gjøre dem godt, og jeg vil plante dem sikkert i dette landet, med hele mitt hjerte og med hele min sjel.

Yea, I will rejoice over them to do them good, and I will plant them in this land assuredly with my whole heart and with my whole soul.

For så sier Herren: Akkurat som jeg har brakt all denne store ondskapen over dette folket, slik vil jeg bringe over dem alt det gode jeg har lovet dem.

For thus saith the LORD; Like as I have brought all this great evil upon this people, so will I bring upon them all the good that I have promised them.

Og åkrer skal bli kjøpt i dette landet som dere sier er øde, uten mennesker eller dyr, det er overgitt til kaldeernes hånd.

And fields shall be bought in this land, whereof ye say, It is desolate without man or beast; it is given into the hand of the Chaldeans.

Mennesker skal kjøpe åkrer for penger, skrive under på dokumenter, forsegle dem og ta vitner i Benjamins land, og på stedene rundt Jerusalem, og i byene i Juda, og i fjellbyene, i dalbyene og i sørbyene, for jeg vil bringe fangenskapet deres tilbake, sier Herren.

Men shall buy fields for money, and subscribe evidences, and seal them, and take witnesses in the land of Benjamin, and in the places about usalem, and in the cities of Judah, and in the cities of the mountains, and in the cities of the valley, and in the cities of the south: for I will cause their captivity to return, saith the LORD.
