Hele forsamlingen av Israels barn samlet seg i Shilo og satte opp tabernaklet for forsamlingen der. Og landet var underlagt dem.

And the whole congregation of the children of Israel assembled together at Shiloh, and set up the tabernacle of the congregation there. And the land was subdued before them.

Det var fortsatt syv stammer blant Israels barn som ennå ikke hadde mottatt sin arv.

And there remained among the children of Israel seven tribes, which had not yet received their inheritance.

Josva sa til Israels barn: Hvor lenge vil dere vente med å ta landet i eie, det som Herren, deres fedres Gud, har gitt dere?

And hua said unto the children of Israel, How long are ye slack to go to possess the land, which the LORD God of your fathers hath given you?

Velg ut tre menn fra hver stamme, så skal jeg sende dem ut. De skal reise gjennom landet, beskrive det etter deres arv, og komme tilbake til meg.

Give out from among you three men for each tribe: and I will send them, and they shall rise, and go through the land, and describe it according to the inheritance of them; and they shall come again to me.

De skal dele det i syv deler: Juda skal ha sitt område i sør, og Josefs hus skal ha sitt område i nord.

And they shall divide it into seven parts: Judah shall abide in their coast on the south, and the house of eph shall abide in their coasts on the north.

Dere skal altså beskrive landet i syv deler og komme tilbake til meg, så jeg kan trekke lodd for dere her, for Herrens, vår Guds, åsyn.

Ye shall therefore describe the land into seven parts, and bring the description hither to me, that I may cast lots for you here before the LORD our God.

Men levittene skal ikke ha noen del blant dere, for Herrens presteskap er deres arv. Gad, Ruben og halve Manasses stamme har allerede mottatt sin arv øst for Jordan, som Moses, Herrens tjener, ga dem.

But the Levites have no part among you; for the priesthood of the LORD is their inheritance: and Gad, and Reuben, and half the tribe of Manasseh, have received their inheritance beyond Jordan on the east, which Moses the servant of the LORD gave them.

Mennene gjorde seg klare og dro av gårde. Josva befalte de mennene som gikk for å beskrive landet, og sa: Gå og vandre gjennom landet, beskriv det, og kom tilbake til meg, så jeg kan trekke lodd for dere her i Shilo, for Herrens åsyn.

And the men arose, and went away: and hua charged them that went to describe the land, saying, Go and walk through the land, and describe it, and come again to me, that I may here cast lots for you before the LORD in Shiloh.

Mennene dro av sted og gikk gjennom landet. De beskrev det i en bok by for by, i syv deler, og vendte tilbake til Josva i leiren ved Shilo.

And the men went and passed through the land, and described it by cities into seven parts in a book, and came again to hua to the host at Shiloh.

Josva trakk lodd for dem i Shilo for Herrens åsyn, og deretter fordelte han landet blant Israels barn, etter deres delinger.

And hua cast lots for them in Shiloh before the LORD: and there hua divided the land unto the children of Israel according to their divisions.

Loddet for Benjamins stamme kom ut etter deres familier, og grensen på deres lot gikk mellom Judas og Josefs barn.

And the lot of the tribe of the children of Benjamin came up according to their families: and the coast of their lot came forth between the children of Judah and the children of eph.

Grensen på nordsiden begynte ved Jordan, gikk opp til nordsiden av Jeriko og fortsatte gjennom fjellene vestover, og endte i Bet-Avens ørken.

And their border on the north side was from Jordan; and the border went up to the side of Jericho on the north side, and went up through the mountains westward; and the goings out thereof were at the wilderness of Beth-aven.

Grensen fortsatte derfra mot Luz, til den sørlige siden av Luz, som er Betel, og gikk ned til Atarot-Adar, i nærheten av fjellet sør for det lavere Bet-Horon.

And the border went over from thence toward Luz, to the side of Luz, which is Beth-el, southward; and the border descended to Ataroth-adar, near the hill that lieth on the south side of the nether Beth-horon.

Grensen ble trukket derfra og svingte seg om til havets side mot sør, fra fjellet foran Bet-Horon mot sør. Utgangspunktet derfra endte ved Kirjat-Ba'al, som er Kirjat-Jearim, en by tilhørende Judas barn. Dette var vestsiden.

And the border was drawn thence, and compassed the corner of the sea southward, from the hill that lieth before Beth-horon southward; and the goings out thereof were at Kirjath-baal, which is Kirjath-jearim, a city of the children of Judah: this was the west quarter.

Sørgrensen startet fra enden av Kirjat-Jearim, og gikk vestover og endte ved vannkilden Nephtoah.

And the south quarter was from the end of Kirjath-jearim, and the border went out on the west, and went out to the well of waters of Nephtoah:

Grensen gikk ned til fjellets slutt som ligger foran Hinnoms dal, nord i Refaim-dalen, og gikk ned til Hinnoms dal på sørsiden av Jebusi og ned til En-Rogel.

And the border came down to the end of the mountain that lieth before the valley of the son of Hinnom, and which is in the valley of the giants on the north, and descended to the valley of Hinnom, to the side of Jebusi on the south, and descended to En-rogel,

Den gikk nordover mot En-Shemesh, fortsatte til Geliloth, som ligger ved Adummims oppstigning, og gikk ned til steinen til Bohan, Rubens sønn.

And was drawn from the north, and went forth to En-shemesh, and went forth toward Geliloth, which is over against the going up of Adummim, and descended to the stone of Bohan the son of Reuben,

Så gikk den videre mot nordsiden av Arabah og gikk ned til Arabah.

And passed along toward the side over against Arabah northward, and went down unto Arabah:

Grensen fortsatte til nordsiden av Bet-Hoglah: og endepunktet for grensen var ved nordenden av Saltsjøen, ved Jordans sørlige ende. Dette var sørsiden.

And the border passed along to the side of Beth-hoglah northward: and the outgoings of the border were at the north bay of the salt sea at the south end of Jordan: this was the south coast.

Jordan var grensen på østsiden. Dette var arven til Benjamins barn, etter deres familier, avgrenset på alle sider.

And Jordan was the border of it on the east side. This was the inheritance of the children of Benjamin, by the coasts thereof round about, according to their families.

Now the cities of the tribe of the children of Benjamin according to their families were Jericho, and Beth-hoglah, and the valley of Keziz,

Avvim, Parah og Ofrah,

And Avim, and Parah, and Ophrah,

Kefar-Ha'ammonai, Ofni og Geba; tolv byer med deres landsbyer:

And Chephar-haammonai, and Ophni, and Gaba; twelve cities with their villages:

Gibeon, Rama og Beerot,

Gibeon, and Ramah, and Beeroth,

Mispa, Kefirah og Mosa,

And Mizpeh, and Chephirah, and Mozah,

Rekem, Jirpeel og Taralah,

And Rekem, and Irpeel, and Taralah,

Sela, Elef og Jebusi, som er Jerusalem, Gibea og Kirjat; fjorten byer med deres landsbyer. Dette er arven til Benjamins barn etter deres familier.

And Zelah, Eleph, and Jebusi, which is Jerusalem, Gibeath, and Kirjath; fourteen cities with their villages. This is the inheritance of the children of Benjamin according to their families.
