  • Josh 17:8-9 : 8 The land of Tappuah belonged to Manasseh, but Tappuah itself, on the boundary of Manasseh, belonged to the descendants of Ephraim. 9 The boundary descended to the Wadi Kanah, southward of the wadi. These towns belonged to Ephraim within the towns of Manasseh. The boundary of Manasseh was on the north side of the wadi and ended at the sea. 10 To the south, the land belonged to Ephraim; to the north, it belonged to Manasseh. The sea formed its boundary. Manasseh touched Asher on the north and Issachar on the east.
  • Josh 17:14-18 : 14 The descendants of Joseph spoke to Joshua, saying, 'Why have you given us just one lot and one portion for an inheritance, when we are a numerous people, as the LORD has blessed us to this point?' 15 Joshua said to them, 'If you are so numerous, go up into the forest and clear land for yourselves there in the territory of the Perizzites and the Rephaim, since the hill country of Ephraim is too narrow for you.' 16 The descendants of Joseph replied, 'The hill country is not enough for us, and all the Canaanites who live in the valley have iron chariots, both those in Beth-shean and its surrounding villages and those in the Valley of Jezreel.' 17 Then Joshua said to the house of Joseph—to Ephraim and Manasseh: 'You are a numerous people and strong. You shall not have just one allotment of land,' 18 but the hill country shall be yours. Though it is a forest, you can clear it, and its farthest limits shall be yours. You will drive out the Canaanites, even though they have iron chariots and are strong.
  • Josh 16:1-9 : 1 The lot for the sons of Joseph went out from the Jordan at Jericho, eastward to the waters of Jericho, into the wilderness, and ascended from Jericho through the hill country to Bethel. 2 It went out from Bethel to Luz, passed over to the territory of the Archite at Ataroth. 3 It descended westward to the territory of the Japhletite, as far as the border of Lower Beth-horon, and on to Gezer, and it ended at the sea. 4 So the sons of Joseph—Manasseh and Ephraim—received their inheritance. 5 The territory of the sons of Ephraim according to their clans was as follows: The border of their inheritance on the east began at Ataroth-addar and extended to Upper Beth-horon. 6 The border went westward to Michmethath on the north, turned eastward to Taanath-shiloh, and passed east of Janohah. 7 It descended from Janohah to Ataroth and Naarah, reached Jericho, and ended at the Jordan. 8 From Tappuah, the border continued westward to the Brook of Kanah and ended at the sea. This was the inheritance of the tribe of the sons of Ephraim according to their clans. 9 Additionally, there were cities set apart for the sons of Ephraim in the midst of the inheritance of the sons of Manasseh, all the cities with their villages. 10 However, they did not drive out the Canaanites who lived in Gezer. So the Canaanites have lived in the midst of Ephraim to this day, but they became forced laborers.
