  • John 8:3-9 : 3 The scribes and the Pharisees brought a woman who had been caught in adultery, and they placed her in the middle. 4 They said to him, "Teacher, this woman was caught in the very act of adultery. 5 In the Law, Moses commanded us to stone such women. So what do you say?" 6 They said this to test him, so they might have grounds to accuse him. But Jesus stooped down and began writing on the ground with his finger. 7 When they kept pressing him for an answer, he straightened up and said to them, "Let anyone among you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her." 8 Then he stooped down again and continued writing on the ground. 9 When they heard this, they began to leave one by one, starting with the older ones, until only Jesus was left with the woman standing there. 10 Jesus straightened up and asked her, "Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?" 11 She said, "No one, Lord." Jesus said, "Neither do I condemn you. Go now and leave your life of sin." 12 Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, "I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness but will have the light of life." 13 The Pharisees said to him, "You are testifying about yourself; your testimony is not valid." 14 Jesus answered, "Even if I testify about myself, my testimony is true, because I know where I came from and where I am going. But you do not know where I come from or where I am going. 15 You judge by human standards; I judge no one. 16 And even if I judge, my judgment is true, because I am not alone, but I am with the Father who sent me. 17 In your Law, it is written that the testimony of two people is true. 18 I am the one who testifies about myself, and the Father who sent me also testifies about me. 19 Then they asked him, "Where is your Father?" Jesus answered, "You know neither me nor my Father. If you knew me, you would know my Father also." 20 He spoke these words while teaching in the temple treasury. Yet no one seized him, because his hour had not yet come.
