Verse 1

David, along with the army leaders, set apart the sons of Asaph, Heman, and Jeduthun for the work of prophesying, using harps, lyres, and cymbals. Their work and number of those engaged in this service were recorded.

Moreover David and the captains of the host separated to the service of the sons of Asaph, and of Heman, and of Jeduthun, who should prophesy with harps, with psalteries, and with cymbals: and the number of the workmen according to their service was:

Verse 2

From the sons of Asaph: Zaccur, Joseph, Nethaniah, and Asarelah. These sons of Asaph were under the direction of Asaph, who prophesied under the guidance of the king.

Of the sons of Asaph; Zaccur, and Joseph, and Nethaniah, and Asarelah, the sons of Asaph under the hands of Asaph, which prophesied according to the order of the king.

Verse 3

From Jeduthun: the sons of Jeduthun were Gedaliah, Zeri, Jeshaiah, Hashabiah, Mattithiah—six in total. They were under the direction of their father Jeduthun, who prophesied with the harp, giving thanks and praising the LORD.

Of Jeduthun: the sons of Jeduthun; Gedaliah, and Zeri, and Jeshaiah, Hashabiah, and Mattithiah, six, under the hands of their father Jeduthun, who prophesied with a harp, to give thanks and to praise the LORD.

Verse 4

From Heman: the sons of Heman were Bukkiah, Mattaniah, Uzziel, Shebuel, Jerimoth, Hananiah, Hanani, Eliathah, Giddalti, Romamti-Ezer, Joshbekashah, Mallothi, Hothir, and Mahazioth.

Of Heman: the sons of Heman; Bukkiah, Mattaniah, Uzziel, Shebuel, and Jerimoth, Hananiah, Hanani, Eliathah, Giddalti, and Romamtiezer, Joshbekashah, Mallothi, Hothir, and Mahazioth:

Verse 5

All these were the sons of Heman, the king's seer, who was entrusted with the words of God to exalt his power. God gave Heman fourteen sons and three daughters.

All these were the sons of Heman the king's seer in the words of God, to lift up the horn. And God gave to Heman fourteen sons and three daughters.

Verse 6

All these men were under their father's direction for the music in the house of the LORD, with cymbals, lyres, and harps for the service of the house of God. They were under the direction of the king, Asaph, Jeduthun, and Heman.

All these were under the hands of their father for song in the house of the LORD, with cymbals, psalteries, and harps, for the service of the house of God, according to the king's order to Asaph, Jeduthun, and Heman.

Verse 7

The number of them, along with their relatives, all trained and skilled in music for the LORD, was 288.

So the number of them, with their brethren that were instructed in the songs of the LORD, even all that were cunning, was two hundred fourscore and eight.

Verse 8

They cast lots for their duties, young and old alike, teacher as well as student.

And they cast lots, ward against ward, as well the small as the great, the teacher as the scholar.

Verse 9

The first lot came out for Asaph's son Joseph, and his sons and relatives—twelve in all.

Now the first lot came forth for Asaph to Joseph: the second to Gedaliah, who with his brethren and sons were twelve:

Verse 10

The second lot came out for Gedaliah, and his sons and relatives—twelve in all.

The third to Zaccur, he, his sons, and his brethren, were twelve:

Verse 11

The third lot came out for Zaccur, and his sons and relatives—twelve in all.

The fourth to Izri, he, his sons, and his brethren, were twelve:

Verse 12

The fourth lot came out for Izri, and his sons and relatives—twelve in all.

The fifth to Nethaniah, he, his sons, and his brethren, were twelve:

Verse 13

The fifth lot came out for Nethaniah, and his sons and relatives—twelve in all.

The sixth to Bukkiah, he, his sons, and his brethren, were twelve:

Verse 14

The sixth lot came out for Bukkiah, and his sons and relatives—twelve in all.

The seventh to Jesharelah, he, his sons, and his brethren, were twelve:

Verse 15

The seventh lot came out for Jesharelah, and his sons and relatives—twelve in all.

The eighth to Jeshaiah, he, his sons, and his brethren, were twelve:

Verse 16

The ninth lot came out for Mattaniah, and his sons and relatives—twelve in all.

The ninth to Mattaniah, he, his sons, and his brethren, were twelve:

Verse 17

The tenth lot came out for Shimei, and his sons and relatives—twelve in all.

The tenth to Shimei, he, his sons, and his brethren, were twelve:

Verse 18

The eleventh lot came out for Azarel, and his sons and relatives—twelve in all.

The eleventh to Azareel, he, his sons, and his brethren, were twelve:

Verse 19

The twelfth lot came out for Hashabiah, and his sons and relatives—twelve in all.

The twelfth to Hashabiah, he, his sons, and his brethren, were twelve:

Verse 20

The thirteenth lot came out for Shubael, and his sons and relatives—twelve in all.

The thirteenth to Shubael, he, his sons, and his brethren, were twelve:

Verse 21

The fourteenth lot came out for Mattithiah, and his sons and relatives—twelve in all.

The fourteenth to Mattithiah, he, his sons, and his brethren, were twelve:

Verse 22

The fifteenth lot came out for Jeremoth, and his sons and relatives—twelve in all.

The fifteenth to Jeremoth, he, his sons, and his brethren, were twelve:

Verse 23

The sixteenth lot came out for Hananiah, and his sons and relatives—twelve in all.

The sixteenth to Hananiah, he, his sons, and his brethren, were twelve:

Verse 24

The seventeenth lot came out for Joshbekashah, and his sons and relatives—twelve in all.

The seventeenth to Joshbekashah, he, his sons, and his brethren, were twelve:

Verse 25

The eighteenth lot came out for Hanani, and his sons and relatives—twelve in all.

The eighteenth to Hanani, he, his sons, and his brethren, were twelve:

Verse 26

The nineteenth lot came out for Mallothi, and his sons and relatives—twelve in all.

The nineteenth to Mallothi, he, his sons, and his brethren, were twelve:

Verse 27

The twentieth lot came out for Eliathah, and his sons and relatives—twelve in all.

The twentieth to Eliathah, he, his sons, and his brethren, were twelve:

Verse 28

The twenty-first lot came out for Hothir, and his sons and relatives—twelve in all.

The one and twentieth to Hothir, he, his sons, and his brethren, were twelve:

Verse 29

The twenty-second lot came out for Giddalti, and his sons and relatives—twelve in all.

The two and twentieth to Giddalti, he, his sons, and his brethren, were twelve:

Verse 30

The twenty-third lot came out for Mahazioth, and his sons and relatives—twelve in all.

The three and twentieth to Mahazioth, he, his sons, and his brethren, were twelve:

Verse 31

The twenty-fourth lot came out for Romamti-Ezer, and his sons and relatives—twelve in all.

The four and twentieth to Romamtiezer, he, his sons, and his brethren, were twelve.
