Verse 1

These are the divisions of the gatekeepers: from the Korahites, Meshelemiah, son of Kore, from the sons of Asaph.

Concerning the divisions of the porters: Of the Korhites was Meshelemiah the son of Kore, of the sons of Asaph.

Verse 2

Meshelemiah had sons: Zechariah the firstborn, Jediael the second, Zebadiah the third, Jathniel the fourth,

And the sons of Meshelemiah were, Zechariah the firstborn, Jediael the second, Zebadiah the third, Jathniel the fourth,

Verse 3

Elam the fifth, Jehohanan the sixth, and Eliehoenai the seventh.

Elam the fifth, Jehohanan the sixth, Elioenai the seventh.

Verse 4

Obed-Edom also had sons: Shemaiah the firstborn, Jehozabad the second, Joah the third, Sacar the fourth, and Nethanel the fifth.

Moreover the sons of Obededom were, Shemaiah the firstborn, Jehozabad the second, Joah the third, and Sacar the fourth, and Nethaneel the fifth,

Verse 5

Ammiel the sixth, Issachar the seventh, and Peullethai the eighth, for God had blessed him.

Ammiel the sixth, Issachar the seventh, Peulthai the eighth: for God blessed him.

Verse 6

To Shemaiah his son were born sons who ruled over their father's house, for they were mighty men of valor.

Also unto Shemaiah his son were sons born, that ruled throughout the house of their father: for they were mighty men of valour.

Verse 7

The sons of Shemaiah: Othni, Rephael, Obed, and Elzabad. His brothers Elihu and Semachiah were also men of valor.

The sons of Shemaiah; Othni, and Rephael, and Obed, Elzabad, whose brethren were strong men, Elihu, and Semachiah.

Verse 8

All these were descendants of Obed-Edom: they, their sons, and their brothers, able men with strength for the service—62 in total from Obed-Edom.

All these of the sons of Obededom: they and their sons and their brethren, able men for strength for the service, were threescore and two of Obededom.

Verse 9

Meshelemiah had 18 sons and brothers who were men of valor.

And Meshelemiah had sons and brethren, strong men, eighteen.

Verse 10

Hosah, from the descendants of Merari, also had sons: Shimri the leader (though he was not the firstborn, his father appointed him as leader).

Also Hosah, of the children of Merari, had sons; Simri the chief, (for though he was not the firstborn, yet his father made him the chief;)

Verse 11

Hilkiah was the second, Tebaliah the third, and Zechariah the fourth. Altogether, Hosah had 13 sons and brothers.

Hilkiah the second, Tebaliah the third, Zechariah the fourth: all the sons and brethren of Hosah were thirteen.

Verse 12

These divisions of the gatekeepers were assigned to the leading men to have responsibilities beside their brothers, to serve in the house of the LORD.

Among these were the divisions of the porters, even among the chief men, having wards one against another, to minister in the house of the LORD.

Verse 13

They cast lots, young and old alike, for their families, for each gate.

And they cast lots, as well the small as the great, according to the house of their fathers, for every gate.

Verse 14

The lot for the east gate fell to Shelemiah. Then they cast lots for Zechariah, his son—a wise counselor—and his lot came out for the north gate.

And the lot eastward fell to Shelemiah. Then for Zechariah his son, a wise counsellor, they cast lots; and his lot came out northward.

Verse 15

The lot for the south gate fell to Obed-Edom, and the responsibility for the storehouses went to his sons.

To Obededom southward; and to his sons the house of Asuppim.

Verse 16

To Shuppim and Hosah fell the west gate, along with the Shallecheth Gate at the ascending road. Guard was set up opposite guard.

To Shuppim and Hosah the lot came forth westward, with the gate Shallecheth, by the causeway of the going up, ward against ward.

Verse 17

On the east side, there were six Levites; on the north side, four per day; on the south side, four per day; and at the storerooms, two by two.

Eastward were six Levites, northward four a day, southward four a day, and toward Asuppim two and two.

Verse 18

For the Parbar to the west, there were four at the highway and two at the Parbar itself.

At Parbar westward, four at the causeway, and two at Parbar.

Verse 19

These were the divisions of the gatekeepers, from the Korahite sons and the sons of Merari.

These are the divisions of the porters among the sons of Kore, and among the sons of Merari.

Verse 20

And the Levites, led by Ahijah, were in charge of the treasures of the house of God and the treasures of the holy things.

And of the Levites, Ahijah was over the treasures of the house of God, and over the treasures of the dedicated things.

Verse 21

The sons of Ladan, who were descendants of the Gershonites, came through Ladan. Jehieli was the leader among the heads of the families of Ladan the Gershonite.

As concerning the sons of Laadan; the sons of the Gershonite Laadan, chief fathers, even of Laadan the Gershonite, were Jehieli.

Verse 22

The sons of Jehieli were Zetham and his brother Joel, who were assigned to oversee the treasuries of the LORD's temple.

The sons of Jehieli; Zetham, and Joel his brother, which were over the treasures of the house of the LORD.

Verse 23

From the Amramites, Izharites, Hebronites, and Uzzielites:

Of the Amramites, and the Izharites, the Hebronites, and the Uzzielites:

Verse 24

Shebuel, a descendant of Gershom, the son of Moses, was the overseer in charge of the treasuries.

And Shebuel the son of Gershom, the son of Moses, was ruler of the treasures.

Verse 25

His relatives descended from Eliezer: Rehabiah, his son; Jeshaiah, his son; Joram, his son; Zichri, his son; and Shelomith, his son.

And his brethren by Eliezer; Rehabiah his son, and Jeshaiah his son, and Joram his son, and Zichri his son, and Shelomith his son.

Verse 26

Shelomith and his relatives were in charge of all the treasures of the dedicated things that King David, the heads of families, and the commanders of thousands and hundreds, and the military officers had set apart.

Which Shelomith and his brethren were over all the treasures of the dedicated things, which David the king, and the chief fathers, the captains over thousands and hundreds, and the captains of the host, had dedicated.

Verse 27

From the spoils won in battles, they had dedicated them to maintain and repair the house of the LORD.

Out of the spoils won in battles did they dedicate to maintain the house of the LORD.

Verse 28

Everything that Samuel the seer, Saul son of Kish, Abner son of Ner, and Joab son of Zeruiah had dedicated—all the dedicated things were under the care of Shelomith and his brothers.

And all that Samuel the seer, and Saul the son of Kish, and Abner the son of Ner, and Joab the son of Zeruiah, had dedicated; and whosoever had dedicated any thing, it was under the hand of Shelomith, and of his brethren.

Verse 29

From the Izharites: Chenaniah and his sons were assigned outside duties for Israel as officers and judges.

Of the Izharites, Chenaniah and his sons were for the outward business over Israel, for officers and judges.

Verse 30

From the Hebronites: Hashabiah and his relatives, 1,700 capable men, were put in charge of Israel west of the Jordan for all the work of the LORD and the service of the king.

And of the Hebronites, Hashabiah and his brethren, men of valour, a thousand and seven hundred, were officers among them of Israel on this side Jordan westward in all the business of the LORD, and in the service of the king.

Verse 31

From the Hebronites: Jerijah was the leader according to their genealogies of the families. In the fortieth year of David's reign, they were searched, and among them were found capable warriors in Jazer of Gilead.

Among the Hebronites was Jerijah the chief, even among the Hebronites, according to the generations of his fathers. In the fortieth year of the reign of David they were sought for, and there were found among them mighty men of valour at Jazer of Gilead.

Verse 32

His relatives were 2,700 capable men, heads of families. King David appointed them over the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh for all matters of God and the affairs of the king.

And his brethren, men of valour, were two thousand and seven hundred chief fathers, whom king David made rulers over the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half tribe of Manasseh, for every matter pertaining to God, and affairs of the king.
