Verse 1

Hear this word, you cows of Bashan who are on Mount Samaria, who oppress the poor and crush the needy, who say to your masters, 'Bring us something to drink!'

Hear this word, ye kine of Bashan, that are in the mountain of Samaria, which oppress the poor, which crush the needy, which say to their masters, Bring, and let us drink.

Verse 2

The Lord GOD has sworn by His holiness: 'Indeed, the days are coming upon you when you will be taken away with hooks, and your posterity with fishhooks.'

The Lord GOD hath sworn by his holiness, that, lo, the days shall come upon you, that he will take you away with hooks, and your posterity with fishhooks.

Verse 3

You will go out through breaches in the wall, each woman straight ahead, and you will be cast out toward Harmon,' declares the LORD.

And ye shall go out at the breaches, every cow at that which is before her; and ye shall cast them into the palace, saith the LORD.

Verse 4

Come to Bethel and transgress, go to Gilgal and multiply sins; bring your sacrifices every morning and your tithes every three days.

Come to Bethel, and transgress; at Gilgal multiply transgression; and bring your sacrifices every morning, and your tithes after three years:

Verse 5

Burn a thanksgiving offering with leaven, loudly proclaim your freewill offerings, for this is what you love to do, O people of Israel,' declares the Lord GOD.

And offer a sacrifice of thanksgiving with leaven, and proclaim and publish the free offerings: for this liketh you, O ye children of Israel, saith the Lord GOD.

Verse 6

I also gave you cleanness of teeth in all your cities and lack of bread in all your places, yet you did not return to Me,' declares the LORD.

And I also have given you cleanness of teeth in all your cities, and want of bread in all your places: yet have ye not returned unto me, saith the LORD.

Verse 7

I withheld the rain from you when there were still three months until harvest. I caused it to rain on one city but not on another; one field received rain, while another withered due to lack of it.

And also I have withholden the rain from you, when there were yet three months to the harvest: and I caused it to rain upon one city, and caused it not to rain upon another city: one piece was rained upon, and the piece whereupon it rained not withered.

Verse 8

People staggered from city to city for water but were not satisfied, yet you did not return to Me,' declares the LORD.

So two or three cities wandered unto one city, to drink water; but they were not satisfied: yet have ye not returned unto me, saith the LORD.

Verse 9

I struck you with blight and mildew; the locust devoured your many gardens, vineyards, fig trees, and olive trees, yet you did not return to Me,' declares the LORD.

I have smitten you with blasting and mildew: when your gardens and your vineyards and your fig trees and your olive trees increased, the palmerworm devoured them: yet have ye not returned unto me, saith the LORD.

Verse 10

I sent plagues among you like those in Egypt. I killed your young men with the sword, along with your captured horses. The stench of your camps rose into your nostrils, yet you did not return to Me,' declares the LORD.

I have sent among you the pestilence after the manner of Egypt: your young men have I slain with the sword, and have taken away your horses; and I have made the stink of your camps to come up unto your nostrils: yet have ye not returned unto me, saith the LORD.

Verse 11

I overthrew some of you as God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah. You were like a firebrand snatched from the burning, yet you did not return to Me,' declares the LORD.

I have overthrown some of you, as God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah, and ye were as a firebrand plucked out of the burning: yet have ye not returned unto me, saith the LORD.

Verse 12

Therefore, this is what I will do to you, Israel, and because I will do this to you, prepare to meet your God, O Israel.

Therefore thus will I do unto thee, O Israel: and because I will do this unto thee, prepare to meet thy God, O Israel.

Verse 13

For behold, He who forms the mountains and creates the wind, who reveals His thoughts to mankind, who turns dawn to darkness and treads on the heights of the earth—the LORD God of Hosts is His name.

For, lo, he that formeth the mountains, and createth the wind, and declareth unto man what is his thought, that maketh the morning darkness, and treadeth upon the high places of the earth, The LORD, The God of hosts, is his name.
