Verse 1

Do not make idols for yourselves, or set up a carved image or a sacred pillar for yourselves, and do not place a figured stone in your land to bow down to it, for I am the LORD your God.

Ye shall make you no idols nor graven image, neither rear you up a standing image, neither shall ye set up any image of stone in your land, to bow down unto it: for I am the LORD your God.

Verse 2

Keep my Sabbaths and revere my sanctuary; I am the LORD.

Ye shall keep my sabbaths, and reverence my sanctuary: I am the LORD.

Verse 3

If you walk in my statutes and keep my commandments and carry them out,

If ye walk in my statutes, and keep my commandments, and do them;

Verse 4

then I will provide your rains in their season, and the land will yield its produce, and the trees of the field will bear their fruit.

Then I will give you rain in due season, and the land shall yield her increase, and the trees of the field shall yield their fruit.

Verse 5

Your threshing will continue until grape harvest, and the grape harvest will continue until sowing, and you will eat your bread to the full and live securely in your land.

And your threshing shall reach unto the vintage, and the vintage shall reach unto the sowing time: and ye shall eat your bread to the full, and dwell in your land safely.

Verse 6

I will give peace in the land, and you will lie down with no one to make you afraid. I will remove harmful beasts from the land, and no sword will go through your land.

And I will give peace in the land, and ye shall lie down, and none shall make you afraid: and I will rid evil beasts out of the land, neither shall the sword go through your land.

Verse 7

You will chase your enemies, and they will fall before you by the sword.

And ye shall chase your enemies, and they shall fall before you by the sword.

Verse 8

Five of you will chase a hundred, and a hundred of you will chase ten thousand, and your enemies will fall before you by the sword.

And five of you shall chase an hundred, and an hundred of you shall put ten thousand to flight: and your enemies shall fall before you by the sword.

Verse 9

I will turn to you, make you fruitful, and multiply you, and I will confirm my covenant with you.

For I will have respect unto you, and make you fruitful, and multiply you, and establish my covenant with you.

Verse 10

You will eat the old supply long stored, and you will clear out the old to make room for the new.

And ye shall eat old store, and bring forth the old because of the new.

Verse 11

I will set my dwelling among you, and my soul will not reject you.

And I will set my tabernacle among you: and my soul shall not abhor you.

Verse 12

I will walk among you and be your God, and you will be my people.

And I will walk among you, and will be your God, and ye shall be my people.

Verse 13

I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt so that you would no longer be slaves to them; I broke the bars of your yoke and enabled you to walk with heads held high.

I am the LORD your God, which brought you forth out of the land of Egypt, that ye should not be their bondmen; and I have broken the bands of your yoke, and made you go upright.

Verse 14

But if you will not listen to me and will not carry out all these commandments,

But if ye will not hearken unto me, and will not do all these commandments;

Verse 15

and if you reject my statutes and if your soul loathes my judgments so that you do not carry out all my commandments and thus break my covenant,

And if ye shall despise my statutes, or if your soul abhor my judgments, so that ye will not do all my commandments, but that ye break my covenant:

Verse 16

I, in turn, will do this to you: I will bring sudden terror upon you, wasting diseases and fever that destroy your eyes and drain your strength. You will plant your seed in vain, for your enemies will eat it.

I also will do this unto you; I will even appoint over you terror, consumption, and the burning ague, that shall consume the eyes, and cause sorrow of heart: and ye shall sow your seed in vain, for your enemies shall eat it.

Verse 17

I will set my face against you so that you will be defeated by your enemies; those who hate you will rule over you, and you will flee even when no one is chasing you.

And I will set my face against you, and ye shall be slain before your enemies: they that hate you shall reign over you; and ye shall flee when none pursueth you.

Verse 18

If after all this you still do not listen to me, I will punish you seven times over for your sins.

And if ye will not yet for all this hearken unto me, then I will punish you seven times more for your sins.

Verse 19

I will break your stubborn pride and make your sky like iron and your land like bronze.

And I will break the pride of your power; and I will make your heaven as iron, and your earth as brass:

Verse 20

Your strength will be spent in vain, because your land will not yield its crops, nor will the trees of the land yield their fruit.

And your strength shall be spent in vain: for your land shall not yield her increase, neither shall the trees of the land yield their fruits.

Verse 21

If you continue to walk contrary to me and are unwilling to listen to me, I will multiply your afflictions seven times over as your sins deserve.

And if ye walk contrary unto me, and will not hearken unto me; I will bring seven times more plagues upon you according to your sins.

Verse 22

I will send wild animals against you, and they will rob you of your children, destroy your cattle, and reduce your numbers until your roads are deserted.

I will also send wild beasts among you, which shall rob you of your children, and destroy your cattle, and make you few in number; and your high ways shall be desolate.

Verse 23

If in spite of these things you do not accept my correction and continue to walk contrary to me,

And if ye will not be reformed by me by these things, but will walk contrary unto me;

Verse 24

then I too will act with hostility against you, and I will strike you sevenfold for your sins.

Then will I also walk contrary unto you, and will punish you yet seven times for your sins.

Verse 25

I will bring the sword upon you to avenge the breaking of the covenant, and when you retreat into your cities, I will send a plague among you, and you will be delivered into the hands of the enemy.

And I will bring a sword upon you, that shall avenge the quarrel of my covenant: and when ye are gathered together within your cities, I will send the pestilence among you; and ye shall be delivered into the hand of the enemy.

Verse 26

When I break your staff of bread, ten women will bake your bread in one oven and dole out your bread by weight, and you will eat but not be satisfied.

And when I have broken the staff of your bread, ten women shall bake your bread in one oven, and they shall deliver you your bread again by weight: and ye shall eat, and not be satisfied.

Verse 27

But if, after all this, you do not listen to me and continue to act with hostility against me,

And if ye will not for all this hearken unto me, but walk contrary unto me;

Verse 28

then I in turn will act with furious hostility against you, and I will discipline you seven times over for your sins.

Then I will walk contrary unto you also in fury; and I, even I, will chastise you seven times for your sins.

Verse 29

You will eat the flesh of your sons and the flesh of your daughters.

And ye shall eat the flesh of your sons, and the flesh of your daughters shall ye eat.

Verse 30

I will destroy your high places, cut down your incense altars, and heap your dead bodies on the lifeless forms of your idols, and my soul will reject you.

And I will destroy your high places, and cut down your images, and cast your carcases upon the carcases of your idols, and my soul shall abhor you.

Verse 31

I will lay your cities in ruins, make your sanctuaries desolate, and I will no longer smell the pleasing aroma of your offerings.

And I will make your cities waste, and bring your sanctuaries unto desolation, and I will not smell the savour of your sweet odours.

Verse 32

I will bring the land to desolation so that even your enemies who live there will be appalled by it.

And I will bring the land into desolation: and your enemies which dwell therein shall be astonished at it.

Verse 33

I will scatter you among the nations and will draw out a sword after you. Your land will be desolate and your cities will lie in ruins.

And I will scatter you among the heathen, and will draw out a sword after you: and your land shall be desolate, and your cities waste.

Verse 34

Then the land will enjoy its sabbaths as long as it lies desolate and you are in the land of your enemies; then the land will rest and enjoy its sabbaths.

Then shall the land enjoy her sabbaths, as long as it lieth desolate, and ye be in your enemies' land; even then shall the land rest, and enjoy her sabbaths.

Verse 35

As long as it lies desolate, it will have the rest it did not have during the sabbaths while you lived there.

As long as it lieth desolate it shall rest; because it did not rest in your sabbaths, when ye dwelt upon it.

Verse 36

As for those of you who survive, I will bring weakness into their hearts in the lands of their enemies. The sound of a driven leaf will put them to flight, and they will flee as though running from a sword, though no one pursues them.

And upon them that are left alive of you I will send a faintness into their hearts in the lands of their enemies; and the sound of a shaken leaf shall chase them; and they shall flee, as fleeing from a sword; and they shall fall when none pursueth.

Verse 37

They will stumble over one another as if fleeing from the sword, though no one pursues them. You will not be able to stand before your enemies.

And they shall fall one upon another, as it were before a sword, when none pursueth: and ye shall have no power to stand before your enemies.

Verse 38

You will perish among the nations, and the land of your enemies will consume you.

And ye shall perish among the heathen, and the land of your enemies shall eat you up.

Verse 39

Those of you who remain will waste away in their iniquity in the lands of your enemies; and also because of the iniquities of their ancestors, they will waste away with them.

And they that are left of you shall pine away in their iniquity in your enemies' lands; and also in the iniquities of their fathers shall they pine away with them.

Verse 40

But if they confess their iniquity and the iniquity of their ancestors—their unfaithfulness with which they were unfaithful to me, and also how they walked contrary to me—

If they shall confess their iniquity, and the iniquity of their fathers, with their trespass which they trespassed against me, and that also they have walked contrary unto me;

Verse 41

so that I also walked contrary to them and brought them into the land of their enemies; if then their uncircumcised hearts are humbled, and they accept their punishment for their iniquity,

And that I also have walked contrary unto them, and have brought them into the land of their enemies; if then their uncircumcised hearts be humbled, and they then accept of the punishment of their iniquity:

Verse 42

then I will remember my covenant with Jacob, and also my covenant with Isaac, and also my covenant with Abraham, and I will remember the land.

Then will I remember my covenant with Jacob, and also my covenant with Isaac, and also my covenant with Abraham will I remember; and I will remember the land.

Verse 43

For the land will be abandoned by them and will enjoy its sabbaths while it lies desolate without them; they will accept their punishment for their iniquity, because they rejected my judgments and their soul abhorred my statutes.

The land also shall be left of them, and shall enjoy her sabbaths, while she lieth desolate without them: and they shall accept of the punishment of their iniquity: because, even because they despised my judgments, and because their soul abhorred my statutes.

Verse 44

Yet for all that, when they are in the land of their enemies, I will not reject them or abhor them so as to destroy them completely, breaking my covenant with them, for I am the LORD their God.

And yet for all that, when they be in the land of their enemies, I will not cast them away, neither will I abhor them, to destroy them utterly, and to break my covenant with them: for I am the LORD their God.

Verse 45

For their sake, I will remember the covenant with their ancestors, whom I brought out of the land of Egypt in the sight of the nations to be their God: I am the LORD.

But I will for their sakes remember the covenant of their ancestors, whom I brought forth out of the land of Egypt in the sight of the heathen, that I might be their God: I am the LORD.

Verse 46

These are the statutes, judgments, and laws the LORD established between himself and the sons of Israel through Moses on Mount Sinai.

These are the statutes and judgments and laws, which the LORD made between him and the children of Israel in mount Sinai by the hand of Moses.
