Verse 1

The Festival of Unleavened Bread, also called Passover, was drawing near.

Now the feast of unleavened bread drew nigh, which is called the Passover.

Verse 2

The chief priests and the scribes were looking for a way to kill him because they were afraid of the people.

And the chief priests and scribes sought how they might kill him; for they feared the people.

Verse 3

Then Satan entered Judas, called Iscariot, who was one of the Twelve.

Then entered Satan into Judas surnamed Iscariot, being of the number of the twelve.

Verse 4

Judas went to the chief priests and the officers of the temple guard and discussed with them how he might betray Jesus to them.

And he went his way, and communed with the chief priests and captains, how he might betray him unto them.

Verse 5

They were glad and agreed to give him money.

And they were glad, and covenanted to give him money.

Verse 6

So Judas consented and began looking for an opportunity to hand Jesus over to them when no crowd was present.

And he promised, and sought opportunity to betray him unto them in the absence of the multitude.

Verse 7

Then the day of Unleavened Bread came, on which the Passover lamb was to be sacrificed.

Then came the day of unleavened bread, when the passover must be killed.

Verse 8

Jesus sent Peter and John, saying, "Go and prepare the Passover meal for us to eat."

And he sent Peter and John, saying, Go and prepare us the passover, that we may eat.

Verse 9

"Where do you want us to prepare it?" they asked him.

And they said unto him, Where wilt thou that we prepare?

Verse 10

He replied, "As you enter the city, a man carrying a jar of water will meet you. Follow him to the house he enters.

And he said unto them, Behold, when ye are entered into the city, there shall a man meet you, bearing a pitcher of water; follow him into the house where he entereth in.

Verse 11

Say to the owner of the house, 'The Teacher asks, Where is the guest room where I may eat the Passover with my disciples?"

And ye shall say unto the goodman of the house, The Master saith unto thee, Where is the guestchamber, where I shall eat the passover with my disciples?

Verse 12

He will show you a large, furnished upper room. Prepare the meal there."

And he shall shew you a large upper room furnished: there make ready.

Verse 13

So they went and found it just as he had told them, and they prepared the Passover meal.

And they went, and found as he had said unto them: and they made ready the passover.

Verse 14

When the hour came, Jesus reclined at the table, and the apostles were with him.

And when the hour was come, he sat down, and the twelve apostles with him.

Verse 15

He said to them, "I have eagerly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer.

And he said unto them, With desire I have desired to eat this passover with you before I suffer:

Verse 16

For I tell you, I will not eat it again until it is fulfilled in the kingdom of God."

For I say unto you, I will not any more eat thereof, until it be fulfilled in the kingdom of God.

Verse 17

He took a cup, gave thanks, and said, "Take this and share it among yourselves."

And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and said, Take this, and divide it among yourselves:

Verse 18

For I tell you, I will not drink again from the fruit of the vine until the kingdom of God comes.

For I say unto you, I will not drink of the fruit of the vine, until the kingdom of God shall come.

Verse 19

And taking bread, he gave thanks, broke it, and gave it to them, saying, 'This is my body, which is given for you; do this in remembrance of me.'

And he took bread, and gave thanks, and brake it, and gave unto them, saying, This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me.

Verse 20

In the same way, after supper, he took the cup and said, 'This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you.'

Likewise also the cup after supper, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood, which is shed for you.

Verse 21

But look, the hand of the one who is betraying me is with me on the table.

But, behold, the hand of him that betrayeth me is with me on the table.

Verse 22

For the Son of Man is going as it has been determined. But woe to that man by whom he is betrayed!

And truly the Son of man goeth, as it was determined: but woe unto that man by whom he is betrayed!

Verse 23

And they began to discuss among themselves who it might be that would do this.

And they began to enquire among themselves, which of them it was that should do this thing.

Verse 24

Then a dispute arose among them about who was considered to be the greatest.

And there was also a strife among them, which of them should be accounted the greatest.

Verse 25

But he said to them, 'The kings of the Gentiles lord it over them, and those who exercise authority over them call themselves Benefactors.'

And he said unto them, The kings of the Gentiles exercise lordship over them; and they that exercise authority upon them are called benefactors.

Verse 26

But you are not to be like that. Instead, the greatest among you should be like the youngest, and the one who leads like the one who serves.

But ye shall not be so: but he that is greatest among you, let him be as the younger; and he that is chief, as he that doth serve.

Verse 27

For who is greater, the one who reclines at the table or the one who serves? Is it not the one who reclines at the table? But I am among you as the one who serves.

For whether is greater, he that sitteth at meat, or he that serveth? is not he that sitteth at meat? but I am among you as he that serveth.

Verse 28

You are the ones who have stood by me in my trials.

Ye are they which have continued with me in my temptations.

Verse 29

And I confer on you a kingdom, just as my Father conferred one on me,

And I appoint unto you a kingdom, as my Father hath appointed unto me;

Verse 30

so that you may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom and sit on thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.

That ye may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom, and sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel.

Verse 31

Simon, Simon, behold, Satan has demanded to sift you all like wheat.

And the Lord said, Simon, Simon, behold, Satan hath desired to have you, that he may sift you as wheat:

Verse 32

But I have prayed for you, Simon, that your faith may not fail. And when you have turned back, strengthen your brothers.

But I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not: and when thou art converted, strengthen thy brethren.

Verse 33

And he said, I tell thee, Peter, the cock shall not crow this day, before that thou shalt thrice deny that thou knowest me.

Verse 35

Then Jesus asked them, "When I sent you out without a money bag, a traveling bag, or sandals, did you lack anything?" They replied, "Nothing."

And he said unto them, When I sent you without purse, and scrip, and shoes, lacked ye any thing? And they said, Nothing.

Verse 36

He said to them, "But now, if you have a money bag, take it, and also take a traveling bag. And if you don’t have a sword, sell your cloak and buy one.

Then said he unto them, But now, he that hath a purse, let him take it, and likewise his scrip: and he that hath no sword, let him sell his garment, and buy one.

Verse 37

For I tell you, this Scripture must be fulfilled in me: ‘He was counted among the lawless.’ Indeed, what is written about me is reaching its fulfillment."

For I say unto you, that this that is written must yet be accomplished in me, And he was reckoned among the transgressors: for the things concerning me have an end.

Verse 38

They said, "Lord, look, here are two swords." He answered, "That is enough."

And they said, Lord, behold, here are two swords. And he said unto them, It is enough.

And when he was at the place, he said unto them, Pray that ye enter not into temptation.

Verse 41

He withdrew about a stone’s throw away from them, knelt down, and began to pray.

And he was withdrawn from them about a stone's cast, and kneeled down, and prayed,

Verse 42

He said, "Father, if you are willing, take this cup away from me. Yet not my will, but yours be done."

Saying, Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done.

Verse 43

Then an angel from heaven appeared to him and strengthened him.

And there appeared an angel unto him from heaven, strengthening him.

Verse 44

And being in anguish, he prayed more earnestly, and his sweat was like drops of blood falling to the ground.

And being in an agony he prayed more earnestly: and his sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling down to the ground.

Verse 45

When he rose from prayer and came to his disciples, he found them asleep, overwhelmed with sorrow.

And when he rose up from prayer, and was come to his disciples, he found them sleeping for sorrow,

Verse 46

He said to them, "Why are you sleeping? Get up and pray, so that you will not fall into temptation."

And said unto them, Why sleep ye? rise and pray, lest ye enter into temptation.

Verse 47

While he was still speaking, a crowd came, and the man called Judas, one of the Twelve, was leading them. He approached Jesus to kiss him.

And while he yet spake, behold a multitude, and he that was called Judas, one of the twelve, went before them, and drew near unto Jesus to kiss him.

Verse 48

But Jesus said to him, "Judas, are you betraying the Son of Man with a kiss?"

But Jesus said unto him, Judas, betrayest thou the Son of man with a kiss?

Verse 49

When those around Jesus saw what was about to happen, they said, "Lord, should we strike with our swords?"

When they which were about him saw what would follow, they said unto him, Lord, shall we smite with the sword?

Verse 50

And one of them struck the servant of the high priest, cutting off his right ear.

And one of them smote the servant of the high priest, and cut off his right ear.

Verse 51

But Jesus responded, "No more of this!" And he touched the man's ear and healed him.

And Jesus answered and said, Suffer ye thus far. And he touched his ear, and healed him.

Verse 52

Then Jesus said to the chief priests, the officers of the temple guard, and the elders, who had come for him, "Am I leading a rebellion, that you have come with swords and clubs?

Then Jesus said unto the chief priests, and captains of the temple, and the elders, which were come to him, Be ye come out, as against a thief, with swords and staves?

Verse 53

Every day I was with you in the temple courts, and you did not lay a hand on me. But this is your hour—when darkness reigns."

When I was daily with you in the temple, ye stretched forth no hands against me: but this is your hour, and the power of darkness.

Verse 54

Then they seized him, led him away, and brought him into the house of the high priest. Peter followed at a distance.

Then took they him, and led him, and brought him into the high priest's house. And Peter followed afar off.

Verse 55

They lit a fire in the middle of the courtyard and sat down together, and Peter sat among them.

And when they had kindled a fire in the midst of the hall, and were set down together, Peter sat down among them.

Verse 56

A servant girl saw him seated there in the firelight. She looked closely at him and said, "This man was with him."

But a certain maid beheld him as he sat by the fire, and earnestly looked upon him, and said, This man was also with him.

Verse 57

But he denied it: "Woman, I don’t know him," he said.

And he denied him, saying, Woman, I know him not.

Verse 58

A little later someone else saw him and said, "You also are one of them." "Man, I am not!" Peter replied.

And after a little while another saw him, and said, Thou art also of them. And Peter said, Man, I am not.

Verse 59

About an hour later, another person strongly insisted, 'Certainly, this man was also with him, for he is a Galilean.'

And about the space of one hour after another confidently affirmed, saying, Of a truth this fellow also was with him: for he is a Galilaean.

Verse 60

But Peter replied, 'Man, I don’t know what you’re talking about!' Just as he was speaking, the rooster crowed.

And Peter said, Man, I know not what thou sayest. And immediately, while he yet spake, the cock crew.

Verse 61

The Lord turned and looked straight at Peter. Then Peter remembered the word the Lord had spoken to him: 'Before the rooster crows today, you will disown me three times.'

Verse 68

And if I ask you, you will not answer, and you will not release me.

And if I also ask you, ye will not answer me, nor let me go.

Verse 69

But from now on, the Son of Man will be seated at the right hand of the power of God.'

Hereafter shall the Son of man sit on the right hand of the power of God.

Verse 70

They all asked, 'Are you then the Son of God?' He replied, 'You say that I am.'

Then said they all, Art thou then the Son of God? And he said unto them, Ye say that I am.

Verse 71

They said, 'Why do we need any more testimony? We have heard it from his own lips.'

And they said, What need we any further witness? for we ourselves have heard of his own mouth.
