  • Luke 8:26-39 : 26 They sailed to the region of the Gerasenes, which is across the lake from Galilee. 27 When Jesus stepped ashore, He was met by a man from the city who was possessed by demons. For a long time, this man had not worn clothes or lived in a house, but instead lived among the tombs. 28 When he saw Jesus, he cried out and fell down before Him, shouting in a loud voice, "What do You want with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I beg You, do not torment me!" 29 For Jesus had commanded the unclean spirit to come out of the man. Many times it had seized him, and though he was bound with chains and shackles and kept under guard, he would break the chains and be driven by the demon into deserted places. 30 Jesus asked him, "What is your name?" "Legion," he replied, because many demons had entered him. 31 And they begged Jesus repeatedly not to order them to go into the abyss. 32 A large herd of pigs was feeding there on the hillside. The demons begged Jesus to let them enter the pigs, and He gave them permission. 33 When the demons came out of the man, they went into the pigs, and the herd rushed down the steep bank into the lake and drowned. 34 When those tending the pigs saw what had happened, they ran off and reported it in the town and countryside. 35 The people went out to see what had happened. When they came to Jesus, they found the man who had been possessed by demons sitting at Jesus' feet, dressed and in his right mind, and they were afraid. 36 Those who had seen it reported how the man who had been demon-possessed had been healed. 37 Then the whole crowd from the region of the Gadarenes begged Him to leave them, because they were overwhelmed with great fear. So He got into the boat and returned. 38 The man from whom the demons had gone out begged to go with Him, but Jesus sent him away, saying, 39 "Return to your home and tell how much God has done for you." So the man went away and proclaimed throughout the whole city how much Jesus had done for him.
  • Matt 8:28-34 : 28 When He arrived at the other side in the region of the Gadarenes, two demon-possessed men came out from the tombs to meet Him. They were so violent that no one could pass that way. 29 Suddenly they shouted, 'What do You want with us, Son of God? Have You come here to torment us before the appointed time?' 30 A large herd of pigs was feeding at some distance from them. 31 The demons begged Him, 'If You drive us out, send us into the herd of pigs.' 32 He said to them, 'Go!' So they came out and went into the herd of pigs. Suddenly, the whole herd of pigs rushed down the steep bank into the sea and drowned in the waters. 33 Those tending the pigs ran off and went into the city. There, they reported everything, including what had happened to the demon-possessed men. 34 Then the whole city came out to meet Jesus. When they saw Him, they begged Him to leave their region.
