Verse 1

Then Jesus stepped into the boat, crossed over, and came to his own town.

And he entered into a ship, and passed over, and came into his own city.

Verse 2

Some people brought to him a paralyzed man lying on a bed. When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the man, 'Take courage, son; your sins are forgiven.'

And, behold, they brought to him a man sick of the palsy, lying on a bed: and Jesus seeing their faith said unto the sick of the palsy; Son, be of good cheer; thy sins be forgiven thee.

Verse 3

At this, some of the scribes said to themselves, 'This man is blaspheming.'

And, behold, certain of the scribes said within themselves, This man blasphemeth.

Verse 4

But Jesus, knowing their thoughts, said, 'Why do you think evil in your hearts?'

And Jesus knowing their thoughts said, Wherefore think ye evil in your hearts?

Verse 5

'Which is easier: to say, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Get up and walk’?'

For whether is easier, to say, Thy sins be forgiven thee; or to say, Arise, and walk?

Verse 6

But so that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins—then he said to the paralyzed man—'Get up, take your mat, and go to your home.'

But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power on earth to forgive sins, (then saith he to the sick of the palsy,) Arise, take up thy bed, and go unto thine house.

Verse 7

And the man stood up and went to his home.

And he arose, and departed to his house.

Verse 8

When the crowds saw this, they were filled with awe and glorified God, who had given such authority to humans.

But when the multitudes saw it, they marvelled, and glorified God, which had given such power unto men.

Verse 9

As Jesus went on from there, he saw a man named Matthew sitting at the tax collector’s booth. 'Follow me,' he told him, and Matthew got up and followed him.

And as Jesus passed forth from thence, he saw a man, named Matthew, sitting at the receipt of custom: and he saith unto him, Follow me. And he arose, and followed him.

Verse 10

While Jesus was reclining at the table in the house, many tax collectors and sinners came and ate with him and his disciples.

And it came to pass, as Jesus sat at meat in the house, behold, many publicans and sinners came and sat down with him and his disciples.

Verse 11

When the Pharisees saw this, they said to his disciples, 'Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?'

And when the Pharisees saw it, they said unto his disciples, Why eateth your Master with publicans and sinners?

Verse 12

But when Jesus heard this, he said, 'It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick.'

But when Jesus heard that, he said unto them, They that be whole need not a physician, but they that are sick.

Verse 13

'Go and learn what this means: ‘I desire mercy, not sacrifice.’ For I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.'

But go ye and learn what that meaneth, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice: for I am not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.

Verse 14

Then the disciples of John came to him and asked, 'Why do we and the Pharisees fast often, but your disciples do not fast?'

Then came to him the disciples of John, saying, Why do we and the Pharisees fast oft, but thy disciples fast not?

Verse 15

Jesus answered them, 'Can the wedding guests mourn while the bridegroom is with them? But the time will come when the bridegroom will be taken away from them, and then they will fast.'

And Jesus said unto them, Can the children of the bridechamber mourn, as long as the bridegroom is with them? but the days will come, when the bridegroom shall be taken from them, and then shall they fast.

Verse 16

No one patches an old garment with a piece of unshrunk cloth, because the patch will pull away from the garment, making the tear worse.

No man putteth a piece of new cloth unto an old garment, for that which is put in to fill it up taketh from the garment, and the rent is made worse.

Verse 17

Neither do people pour new wine into old wineskins. If they do, the skins will burst, the wine will spill out, and the wineskins will be ruined. Instead, they pour new wine into new wineskins, and both are preserved.

Neither do men put new wine into old bottles: else the bottles break, and the wine runneth out, and the bottles perish: but they put new wine into new bottles, and both are preserved.

Verse 18

While he was saying this, a ruler came and knelt before him, saying, 'My daughter has just died. But come and place your hand on her, and she will live.'

While he spake these things unto them, behold, there came a certain ruler, and worshipped him, saying, My daughter is even now dead: but come and lay thy hand upon her, and she shall live.

Verse 19

So Jesus got up and went with him, along with his disciples.

And Jesus arose, and followed him, and so did his disciples.

Verse 20

Just then, a woman who had been suffering from bleeding for twelve years came up behind him and touched the edge of his cloak.

And, behold, a woman, which was diseased with an issue of blood twelve years, came behind him, and touched the hem of his garment:

Verse 21

She said to herself, 'If I only touch his cloak, I will be healed.'

For she said within herself, If I may but touch his garment, I shall be whole.

Verse 22

Jesus turned and saw her. 'Take courage, daughter,' he said, 'your faith has healed you.' And the woman was healed at that moment.

But Jesus turned him about, and when he saw her, he said, Daughter, be of good comfort; thy faith hath made thee whole. And the woman was made whole from that hour.

Verse 23

When Jesus entered the ruler’s house and saw the flute players and the noisy crowd,

And when Jesus came into the ruler's house, and saw the minstrels and the people making a noise,

Verse 24

he said, 'Go away; the girl is not dead but asleep.' But they laughed at him.

He said unto them, Give place: for the maid is not dead, but sleepeth. And they laughed him to scorn.

Verse 25

After the crowd had been put outside, he went in and took the girl by the hand, and she got up.

But when the people were put forth, he went in, and took her by the hand, and the maid arose.

Verse 26

News of this spread throughout that entire region.

And the fame hereof went abroad into all that land.

Verse 27

As Jesus went on from there, two blind men followed him, crying out, 'Have mercy on us, Son of David!'

And when Jesus departed thence, two blind men followed him, crying, and saying, Thou Son of David, have mercy on us.

Verse 28

When he had gone indoors, the blind men came to him, and he asked them, 'Do you believe that I can do this?' 'Yes, Lord,' they replied.

And when he was come into the house, the blind men came to him: and Jesus saith unto them, Believe ye that I am able to do this? They said unto him, Yea, Lord.

Verse 29

Then he touched their eyes and said, 'According to your faith let it be done to you.'

Then touched he their eyes, saying, According to your faith be it unto you.

Verse 30

And their eyes were opened. Then Jesus sternly warned them, saying, 'Make sure no one knows about this.'

And their eyes were opened; and Jesus straitly charged them, saying, See that no man know it.

Verse 31

But they went out and spread the news about him throughout that whole region.

But they, when they were departed, spread abroad his fame in all that country.

Verse 32

As they were going out, a man who was mute and possessed by a demon was brought to him.

As they went out, behold, they brought to him a dumb man possessed with a devil.

Verse 33

When the demon was driven out, the man who had been mute spoke. The crowds were amazed and said, 'Nothing like this has ever been seen in Israel!'

And when the devil was cast out, the dumb spake: and the multitudes marvelled, saying, It was never so seen in Israel.

Verse 34

But the Pharisees said, 'He drives out demons by the ruler of the demons.'

But the Pharisees said, He casteth out devils through the prince of the devils.

Verse 35

Jesus went through all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every disease and sickness among the people.

And Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people.

Verse 36

When he saw the crowds, he was moved with compassion for them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.

But when he saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion on them, because they fainted, and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd.

Verse 37

Then he said to his disciples, 'The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few.'

Then saith he unto his disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few;

Verse 38

Therefore, ask the Lord of the harvest to send out workers into his harvest field.

Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth labourers into his harvest.
