'I want you to give me, right now, the head of John the Baptist on a platter,' she said. 26 The king was greatly distressed, but because of his oaths and his dinner guests, he did not want to refuse her. 27 So he immediately sent an executioner with orders to bring John's head. The man went, beheaded John in the prison, 28 brought back his head on a platter, and presented it to the girl, who gave it to her mother.
  • Acts 23:14-22 : 14 They went to the chief priests and elders and said, 'We have bound ourselves under a solemn curse not to eat anything until we have killed Paul.' 15 Now then, you and the council should notify the commander to bring Paul down to you, as though you are going to investigate his case more thoroughly. We are ready to kill him before he gets here. 16 But the son of Paul’s sister heard about the ambush, so he went to the barracks and reported it to Paul. 17 Then Paul called one of the centurions and said, 'Take this young man to the commander, for he has something to report to him.' 18 So the centurion took him, led him to the commander, and said, 'The prisoner Paul called me and asked me to bring this young man to you because he has something to tell you.' 19 The commander took the young man by the hand, drew him aside, and asked him privately, 'What is it you have to tell me?' 20 He said, 'The Jews have agreed to ask you to bring Paul down to the council tomorrow, as though they are going to inquire more thoroughly about him.' 21 But do not be persuaded by them, because more than forty of them are lying in wait for him. They have bound themselves under a curse not to eat or drink until they have killed him. Now they are ready and waiting for your consent. 22 So the commander dismissed the young man and ordered him, 'Don’t tell anyone that you have informed me about this.'

  • 1 Sam 14:24-46 : 24 Now the Israelites were hard-pressed that day, because Saul had bound the people under an oath, saying, 'Cursed be anyone who eats food before evening comes, before I have avenged myself on my enemies!' So none of the troops tasted food. 25 The entire army entered the forest, and there was honey on the ground. 26 When the people entered the forest, they saw honey flowing, but no one dared to lift a hand to his mouth because the people were afraid of the oath. 27 Jonathan, however, had not heard his father make the people swear the oath. So he reached out the tip of the staff in his hand, dipped it into the honeycomb, and raised it to his mouth. His eyes then brightened. 28 Then one of the men said, 'Your father solemnly charged the people, saying, ‘Cursed is the man who eats food today.’ That is why the people are faint.' 29 Jonathan said, 'My father has brought trouble to the land. See how my eyes have brightened because I tasted just a little of this honey.' 30 How much better it would have been if the men had eaten freely today from the plunder they took from their enemies. Would not the defeat of the Philistines have been even greater? 31 That day they struck down the Philistines from Michmash to Aijalon, but the troops were very exhausted. 32 They pounced on the plunder and took sheep, cattle, and calves. They slaughtered them on the ground and ate them, along with the blood. 33 Someone reported to Saul, 'Look, the troops are sinning against the Lord by eating meat with blood in it.' Saul said, 'You have broken faith. Roll a large stone over here to me at once.' 34 Then he said, 'Go among the men and tell them, ‘Each of you bring me your ox and sheep, and slaughter them here and eat. Do not sin against the Lord by eating meat with blood in it.’' That night, everyone brought their oxen and slaughtered them there. 35 Then Saul built an altar to the Lord; it was the first time he had built an altar to the Lord. 36 Saul said, 'Let us go down after the Philistines by night and plunder them until dawn. Let us not leave one of them alive.' They replied, 'Do whatever seems best to you.' But the priest said, 'Let us inquire of God here.' 37 Saul inquired of God, 'Shall I go down after the Philistines? Will you deliver them into the hand of Israel?' But He did not answer him that day. 38 Then Saul said, 'Come here, all you chiefs of the people. Investigate and find out what sin has been committed today. 39 As surely as the Lord, who saves Israel, lives—even if it is my son Jonathan—he must die.' But no one among the people said a word. 40 Then Saul said to all Israel, 'You stand on one side, and I and Jonathan my son will stand on the other.' And the people said to Saul, 'Do whatever seems right to you.' 41 Then Saul prayed to the Lord, the God of Israel: 'Give a perfect lot.' Jonathan and Saul were taken by lot, and the people were cleared. 42 Saul said, 'Cast the lot between me and Jonathan my son.' And Jonathan was taken. 43 Then Saul said to Jonathan, 'Tell me what you have done.' So Jonathan told him, 'I merely tasted a little honey with the tip of the staff that was in my hand, and now I must die?' 44 Saul said, 'May God deal with me, be it ever so severely, if you do not surely die, Jonathan.' 45 But the people said to Saul, 'Should Jonathan die, he who has brought about this great deliverance for Israel? Never! As surely as the Lord lives, not a hair of his head will fall to the ground, for he acted with God’s help today.' So the people rescued Jonathan, and he was not put to death. 46 Then Saul stopped pursuing the Philistines, and they withdrew to their own land.
