6 We know this: our old self was crucified with Him so that the body of sin might be rendered powerless, and we would no longer be enslaved to sin.

7 For the one who has died has been freed from sin.

8 Now if we have died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with Him.

9 We know that Christ, having been raised from the dead, will never die again; death no longer has power over Him.

10 For the death He died, He died to sin once for all time; but the life He lives, He lives to God.

11 So you too consider yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord.

12 Therefore, do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its desires.

13 Do not present the parts of your body as instruments of unrighteousness to sin, but present yourselves to God as those alive from the dead, and the parts of your body as instruments of righteousness to God.

14 For sin will not rule over you, because you are not under the law but under grace.

15 What then? Shall we sin because we are not under the law but under grace? Certainly not!

16 Do you not know that if you offer yourselves as obedient slaves, you are slaves of the one you obey—either of sin, which leads to death, or of obedience, which leads to righteousness?

17 But thanks be to God that, though you were slaves of sin, you obeyed from the heart the pattern of teaching to which you were entrusted.

18 Having been set free from sin, you became slaves to righteousness.

19 I am speaking in human terms because of the weakness of your flesh. Just as you presented the parts of your body as slaves to impurity and lawlessness leading to more lawlessness, so now present them as slaves to righteousness leading to sanctification.

20 For when you were slaves of sin, you were free with regard to righteousness.

21 But what fruit did you produce then from the things you are now ashamed of? The outcome of those things is death.

22 But now, having been freed from sin and bound to God, you have your fruit, which leads to sanctification—and the outcome is eternal life.

  • 21 So that, just as sin reigned in death, so also grace might reign through righteousness to bring eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

15 But the free gift is not like the trespass. For if many died because of the trespass of one man, how much more has the grace of God and the gift that comes by the grace of the one man, Jesus Christ, overflowed to many.

16 And the gift is not like the result of the one man’s sin. For judgment followed one sin and brought condemnation, but the free gift followed many trespasses and brought justification.

17 For if, by the trespass of one man, death reigned through that one man, how much more will those who receive the abundance of grace and the free gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man, Jesus Christ.

18 So then, just as through one trespass condemnation came to all people, so also through one act of righteousness justification that brings life came to all people.
