1 Begynnelsen på evangeliet om Jesus Kristus, Guds Sønn.

A beginning of the good news of Jesus Christ, Son of God.

As it hath been written in the prophets, `Lo, I send My messenger before thy face, who shall prepare thy way before thee,' --

3 'En røst roper i ørkenen: Rydd Herrens vei, gjør hans stier rette.'

`A voice of one calling in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, straight make ye his paths,' --

4 Johannes kom, som døpte i ørkenen og forkynte en dåp til omvendelse og tilgivelse for syndene.

John came baptizing in the wilderness, and proclaiming a baptism of reformation -- to remission of sins,

5 Hele Judea-området og folk fra Jerusalem dro ut til ham for å bli døpt i Jordan-elven mens de bekjente sine synder.

and there were going forth to him all the region of Judea, and they of Jerusalem, and they were all baptized by him in the river Jordan, confessing their sins.

6 Johannes var kledd i kamelhår med et lærbelte rundt livet, og han spiste gresshopper og vill honning.

And John was clothed with camel's hair, and a girdle of skin around his loins, and eating locusts and honey of the field,

7 Han forkynte: 'Etter meg kommer han som er sterkere enn jeg, han hvis sandalrem jeg ikke er verdig til å bøye meg ned og løse.'

and he proclaimed, saying, `He doth come -- who is mightier than I -- after me, of whom I am not worthy -- having stooped down -- to loose the latchet of his sandals;

8 Jeg har døpt dere med vann, men han skal døpe dere med Den hellige ånd.'

I indeed did baptize you with water, but he shall baptize you with the Holy Spirit.'

9 På den tiden kom Jesus fra Nasaret i Galilea og ble døpt av Johannes i Jordan.

And it came to pass in those days, Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee, and was baptized by John at the Jordan;

10 Og straks da han steg opp av vannet, så han himmelen åpne seg og Ånden komme ned som en due over ham.

and immediately coming up from the water, he saw the heavens dividing, and the Spirit as a dove coming down upon him;

11 Og en stemme lød fra himmelen: 'Du er min Sønn, den elskede, i deg har jeg velbehag.'

and a voice came out of the heavens, `Thou art My Son -- the Beloved, in whom I did delight.'

12 Straks drev Ånden ham ut i ørkenen.

And immediately doth the Spirit put him forth to the wilderness,

13 Han var i ørkenen i førti dager, ble fristet av Satan og var blant de ville dyrene, og engler tjente ham.

and he was there in the wilderness forty days, being tempted by the Adversary, and he was with the beasts, and the messengers were ministering to him.

14 Etter at Johannes var blitt arrestert, dro Jesus til Galilea og forkynte Guds evangelium.

And after the delivering up of John, Jesus came to Galilee, proclaiming the good news of the reign of God,

15 Han sa: 'Tiden er fullendt, og Guds rike er nær. Vend om og tro på evangeliet.'

and saying -- `Fulfilled hath been the time, and the reign of God hath come nigh, reform ye, and believe in the good news.'

16 Mens han gikk langs Galileasjøen, så han Simon og broren Andreas kaste garn i sjøen, for de var fiskere.

And, walking by the sea of Galilee, he saw Simon, and Andrew his brother, casting a drag into the sea, for they were fishers,

17 Jesus sa til dem: 'Følg meg, så vil jeg gjøre dere til menneskefiskere.'

and Jesus said to them, `Come ye after me, and I shall make you to become fishers of men;'

18 Straks forlot de garnene sine og fulgte ham.

and immediately, having left their nets, they followed him.

19 Da han gikk litt videre, så han Jakob, sønn av Sebedeus, og broren Johannes, som satt i båten og reparerte garnene.

And having gone on thence a little, he saw James of Zebedee, and John his brother, and they were in the boat refitting the nets,

20 Og straks kalte han dem, og de forlot sin far Sebedeus i båten sammen med arbeiderne og fulgte ham.

and immediately he called them, and, having left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired servants, they went away after him.

21 De dro til Kapernaum, og straks på sabbaten gikk han inn i synagogen og underviste.

And they go on to Capernaum, and immediately, on the sabbaths, having gone into the synagogue, he was teaching,

22 De ble slått av forundring over hans undervisning, for han lærte dem med myndighet, ikke som de skriftlærde.

and they were astonished at his teaching, for he was teaching them as having authority, and not as the scribes.

23 I synagogen var det en mann med en uren ånd, og han ropte ut,

And there was in their synagogue a man with an unclean spirit, and he cried out,

24 'Hva har vi med deg å gjøre, Jesus fra Nasaret? Har du kommet for å ødelegge oss? Jeg vet hvem du er – Guds Hellige.'

saying, `Away! what -- to us and to thee, Jesus the Nazarene? thou didst come to destroy us; I have known thee who thou art -- the Holy One of God.'

25 Jesus truet ham og sa: 'Ti stille, og kom ut av ham.'

And Jesus rebuked him, saying, `Be silenced, and come forth out of him,'

26 Den urene ånden kastet mannen i kramper, skrek høyt og kom ut av ham.

and the unclean spirit having torn him, and having cried with a great voice, came forth out of him,

27 Alle var så forundret at de diskuterte seg imellom og sa: 'Hva er dette? En ny lære med makt! Han befaler til og med de urene åndene, og de adlyder ham.'

and they were all amazed, so as to reason among themselves, saying, `What is this? what new teaching `is' this? that with authority also the unclean spirits he commandeth, and they obey him!'

28 Ryktet om ham spredte seg straks rundt i hele Galilea-området.

And the fame of him went forth immediately to all the region, round about, of Galilee.

29 Straks de forlot synagogen, gikk de til Simons og Andreas' hus, med Jakob og Johannes.

And immediately, having come forth out of the synagogue, they went to the house of Simon and Andrew, with James and John,

30 Simons svigermor lå med feber, og de fortalte straks Jesus om henne.

and the mother-in-law of Simon was lying fevered, and immediately they tell him about her,

31 Han gikk bort til henne, grep hånden hennes og reiste henne opp. Feberen forlot henne, og hun gikk i gang med å tjene dem.

and having come near, he raised her up, having laid hold of her hand, and the fever left her immediately, and she was ministering to them.

32 Da det ble kveld, og solen hadde gått ned, brakte de til ham alle som var syke og besatte av demoner.

And evening having come, when the sun did set, they brought unto him all who were ill, and who were demoniacs,

33 Hele byen var samlet utenfor døren.

and the whole city was gathered together near the door,

34 Han helbredet mange som led av ulike sykdommer, og kastet ut mange demoner, og han tillot ikke demonene å tale fordi de visste hvem han var.

and he healed many who were ill of manifold diseases, and many demons he cast forth, and was not suffering the demons to speak, because they knew him.

35 Tidlig om morgenen, mens det ennå var mørkt, sto han opp, gikk ut til et øde sted og ba der.

And very early, it being yet night, having risen, he went forth, and went away to a desert place, and was there praying;

36 Simon og de som var med ham, lette etter ham.

and Simon and those with him went in quest of him,

37 Da de fant ham, sa de: 'Alle leter etter deg.'

and having found him, they say to him, -- `All do seek thee;'

38 Han svarte: 'La oss gå til de nærmeste byene, så jeg også kan forkynne der, for det er derfor jeg er kommet.'

and he saith to them, `We may go to the next towns, that there also I may preach, for for this I came forth.'

39 Han forkynte i synagogene deres rundt om i hele Galilea og drev ut demonene.

And he was preaching in their synagogues, in all Galilee, and is casting out the demons,

40 En spedalsk kom til ham og ba ham, knelte ned og sa: 'Om du vil, kan du gjøre meg ren.'

and there doth come to him a leper, calling on him, and kneeling to him, and saying to him -- `If thou mayest will, thou art able to cleanse me.'

41 Full av medlidenhet rakte Jesus ut hånden, rørte ved ham og sa: 'Jeg vil, bli ren.'

And Jesus having been moved with compassion, having stretched forth the hand, touched him, and saith to him, `I will; be thou cleansed;'

42 Straks forlot spedalskheten ham, og han ble ren.

and he having spoken, immediately the leprosy went away from him, and he was cleansed.

43 Jesus sendte ham bort straks med en streng advarsel.

And having sternly charged him, immediately he put him forth,

44 Han sa: 'Si ingenting til noen om dette, men gå og vis deg for presten og bær fram det Moses har påbudt til renselse, som et vitnesbyrd for dem.'

and saith to him, `See thou mayest say nothing to any one, but go away, thyself shew to the priest, and bring near for thy cleansing the things Moses directed, for a testimony to them.'

45 Han gikk ut og begynte å forkynne og spre nyheten vidt og bredt, slik at Jesus ikke lenger kunne gå åpenlyst inn i byen, men måtte oppholde seg utenfor i øde steder, og folk kom til ham fra alle kanter.

And he, having gone forth, began to proclaim much, and to spread abroad the thing, so that no more he was able openly to enter into the city, but he was without in desert places, and they were coming unto him from every quarter.
