1

Maschil{H8688)} of Asaph. O God, why hast thou cast us off{H8804)} for ever? why doth thine anger smoke{H8799)} against the sheep of thy pasture?

2

Remember{H8798)} thy congregation, which thou hast purchased{H8804)} of old; the rod of thine inheritance, which thou hast redeemed{H8804)}; this mount Zion, wherein thou hast dwelt{H8804)}.

3

Lift up{H8685)} thy feet unto the perpetual desolations; even all that the enemy{H8802)} hath done wickedly{H8689)} in the sanctuary.

4

Thine enemies{H8802)} roar{H8804)} in the midst of thy congregations; they set up{H8804)} their ensigns for signs.

5

A man was famous{H8735)} according as he had lifted up{H8688)} axes upon the thick trees.

6

But now they break down{H8799)} the carved work thereof at once with axes and hammers.

7

They have cast{H8765)} fire into thy sanctuary, they have defiled{H8765)} by casting down the dwelling place of thy name to the ground.

8

They said{H8804)} in their hearts, Let us destroy{H8799)} them together: they have burned up{H8804)} all the synagogues of God in the land.

9

We see{H8804)} not our signs: there is no more any prophet: neither is there among us any that knoweth{H8802)} how long.

10

O God, how long shall the adversary reproach{H8762)}? shall the enemy{H8802)} blaspheme{H8762)} thy name for ever?

11

Why withdrawest{H8686)} thou thy hand, even thy right hand? pluck{H8761)} it out of thy bosom{H8675)}.

12

For God is my King of old, working{H8802)} salvation in the midst of the earth.

13

Thou didst divide{H8782)} the sea by thy strength: thou brakest{H8765)} the heads of the dragons in the waters.

14

Thou brakest{H8765)} the heads of leviathan in pieces, and gavest{H8799)} him to be meat to the people inhabiting the wilderness.

15

Thou didst cleave{H8804)} the fountain and the flood: thou driedst up{H8689)} mighty rivers.

16

The day is thine, the night also is thine: thou hast prepared{H8689)} the light and the sun.

17

Thou hast set{H8689)} all the borders of the earth: thou hast made{H8804)} summer and winter.

18

Remember{H8798)} this, that the enemy{H8802)} hath reproached{H8765)}, O LORD, and that the foolish people have blasphemed{H8765)} thy name.

19

O deliver{H8799)} not the soul of thy turtledove unto the multitude of the wicked: forget{H8799)} not the congregation of thy poor for ever.

20

Have respect{H8685)} unto the covenant: for the dark places of the earth are full{H8804)} of the habitations of cruelty.

21

O let not the oppressed return{H8799)} ashamed{H8737)}: let the poor and needy praise{H8762)} thy name.

22

Arise{H8798)}, O God, plead{H8798)} thine own cause: remember{H8798)} how the foolish man reproacheth thee daily.

23

Forget{H8799)} not the voice of thine enemies{H8802)}: the tumult of those that rise up{H8801)} against thee increaseth{H8802)} continually.
