1

To the chief Musician{H8764)} upon Gittith, A Psalm of Asaph. Sing aloud{H8685)} unto God our strength: make a joyful noise{H8685)} unto the God of Jacob.

2

Take{H8798)} a psalm, and bring{H8798)} hither the timbrel, the pleasant harp with the psaltery.

3

Blow up{H8798)} the trumpet in the new moon, in the time appointed, on our solemn feast day.

4

For this was a statute for Israel, and a law of the God of Jacob.

5

This he ordained{H8804)} in Joseph for a testimony, when he went out{H8800)} through the land of Egypt: where I heard{H8799)} a language that I understood{H8804)} not.

6

I removed{H8689)} his shoulder from the burden: his hands were delivered{H8799)} from the pots.

7

Thou calledst{H8804)} in trouble, and I delivered{H8762)} thee; I answered{H8799)} thee in the secret place of thunder: I proved{H8799)} thee at the waters of Meribah. Selah.

8

Hear{H8798)}, O my people, and I will testify{H8686)} unto thee: O Israel, if thou wilt hearken{H8799)} unto me;

9

There shall no strange{H8801)} god be in thee; neither shalt thou worship{H8691)} any strange god.

10

I am the LORD thy God, which brought{H8688)} thee out of the land of Egypt: open thy mouth wide{H8685)}, and I will fill{H8762)} it.

11

But my people would not hearken{H8804)} to my voice; and Israel would{H8804)} none of me.

12

So I gave them up{H8762)} unto their own hearts' lust: and they walked{H8799)} in their own counsels.

13

Oh that my people had hearkened{H8802)} unto me, and Israel had walked{H8762)} in my ways!

14

I should soon have subdued{H8686)} their enemies{H8802)}, and turned{H8686)} my hand against their adversaries.

15

The haters{H8764)} of the LORD should have submitted{H8762)} themselves unto him: but their time should have endured for ever.

16

He should have fed{H8686)} them also with the finest of the wheat: and with honey out of the rock should I have satisfied{H8686)} thee.
