And the men of Beth Shemesh offered burnt offerings and made sacrifices to the Lord on that day. 16 When the five lords of the Philistines had seen it, they returned to Ekron the same day. 17 These are the golden tumors which the Philistines returned as a trespass offering to the Lord: one for Ashdod, one for Gaza, one for Ashkelon, one for Gath, one for Ekron; 18 and the golden mice, according to the number of all the cities of the Philistines belonging to the five lords, both fortified cities and country villages, even to the large stone of Abel, on which they set down the ark of the Lord, which remains to this day in the field of Joshua of Beth Shemesh. 19 And He struck the men of Beth Shemesh because they had looked into the ark of the Lord. He struck fifty thousand and seventy men of the people, and the people mourned because the Lord had struck the people with a great slaughter.

    18And Joash king of Israel sent to Amaziah king of Judah, saying, The thistle in Lebanon sent to the cedar in Lebanon, saying, Give your daughter to my son as wife; and there passed by a wild beast in Lebanon, and trampled down the thistle.

    19You say, Lo, you have struck the Edomites; and your heart is lifted up to boast; stay now at home; why should you meddle to your hurt, that you should fall, even you, and Judah with you?

    20But Amaziah would not listen, for it came from God, that he might deliver them into the hand of their enemies, because they sought after the gods of Edom.

    21So Joash the king of Israel went up, and they saw one another in the face, both he and Amaziah king of Judah, at Bethshemesh, which belongs to Judah.

    22And Judah was defeated before Israel, and they fled every man to his tent.

    23And Joash the king of Israel took Amaziah king of Judah, the son of Joash, the son of Jehoahaz, at Bethshemesh, and brought him to Jerusalem, and broke down the wall of Jerusalem from the gate of Ephraim to the corner gate, four hundred cubits.

Then he departed from Jerusalem.
