2You shall set apart three cities for yourself in the midst of your land, which the LORD your God gives you to possess.
3You shall prepare a road for yourself, and divide the territory of your land, which the LORD your God gives you to inherit, into three parts, so that every manslayer may flee there.
4And this is the case of the manslayer who shall flee there, that he may live: Whoever kills his neighbor unintentionally, whom he did not hate in time past;
5As when a man goes into the forest with his neighbor to cut wood, and his hand swings the axe to cut down the tree, and the head slips from the handle and strikes his neighbor so that he dies, he shall flee to one of those cities and live:
6Lest the avenger of blood pursue the manslayer while his heart is hot and overtake him, because the way is long, and kill him; though he was not worthy of death, since he did not hate him in time past.
7Therefore I command you, saying, You shall set apart three cities for yourself.
42That the slayer might flee there, who should kill his neighbor unintentionally, and hated him not in times past; and that fleeing to one of these cities he might live:
3That the slayer who kills any person unintentionally and unknowingly may flee there: and they shall be your refuge from the avenger of blood.
4And when he who flees to one of those cities shall stand at the entrance of the gate of the city and shall declare his case in the ears of the elders of that city, they shall take him into the city to them and give him a place, that he may dwell among them.
5And if the avenger of blood pursues him, they shall not deliver the slayer into his hand because he struck his neighbor unintentionally and did not hate him beforehand.
6And he shall dwell in that city until he stands before the congregation for judgment, and until the death of the high priest that shall be in those days: then the slayer shall return to his own city and to his own house, to the city from which he fled.

13However, if he did not lie in wait, but God delivered him into his hand, then I will appoint a place for you where he may flee.
14But if a man acts presumptuously against his neighbor, to kill him with guile, you shall take him from my altar, that he may die.
10That innocent blood may not be shed in your land, which the LORD your God gives you as an inheritance, and thus blood guilt be upon you.
11Then you shall appoint cities for yourselves to be cities of refuge; that the slayer may flee there, who kills any person accidentally.
12And they shall be for you cities for refuge from the avenger; that the manslayer may not die, until he stands before the congregation in judgment.
9These were the cities appointed for all the children of Israel, and for the stranger residing among them, that whoever kills any person unintentionally might flee there, and not die by the hand of the avenger of blood, until he stands before the congregation.
