Water the sheep, and go and feed them. 8 And they said, We cannot until all the flocks are gathered together, and they roll the stone from the well's mouth; then we water the sheep. 9 And while he was still speaking with them, Rachel came with her father's sheep, for she tended them. 10 And when Jacob saw Rachel the daughter of Laban his mother's brother, and the sheep of Laban his mother's brother, Jacob went near and rolled the stone from the well's mouth, and watered the flock of Laban his mother's brother. 11 And Jacob kissed Rachel and lifted up his voice and wept. 12 And Jacob told Rachel that he was her father's relative, and that he was Rebekah's son; and she ran and told her father. 13 And it came to pass, when Laban heard the news of Jacob his sister's son, he ran to meet him, embraced him, kissed him, and brought him to his house. And he told Laban all these things. 14 And Laban said to him, Surely you are my bone and my flesh. And he stayed with him for a month. 15 And Laban said to Jacob, Because you are my relative, should you therefore serve me for nothing? Tell me, what shall your wages be? 16 And Laban had two daughters: the name of the elder was Leah, and the name of the younger was Rachel. 17 Leah had weak eyes, but Rachel was beautiful and well favored. 18 And Jacob loved Rachel and said, I will serve you seven years for Rachel your younger daughter. 19 And Laban said, It is better that I give her to you than that I should give her to another man; stay with me. 20 And Jacob served seven years for Rachel, and they seemed to him but a few days, because of the love he had for her. 21 And Jacob said to Laban, Give me my wife, for my time is completed, that I may go in to her. 22 And Laban gathered together all the men of the place and made a feast. 23 And it came to pass in the evening, that he took Leah his daughter and brought her to him, and he went in to her. 24 And Laban gave his daughter Leah Zilpah his maid as a handmaid. 25 And it came to pass that in the morning, behold, it was Leah; and he said to Laban, What is this you have done to me? Did I not serve you for Rachel? Why then have you deceived me? 26 And Laban said, It must not be done so in our country, to give the younger before the firstborn. 27 Fulfill her week, and we will give you the other one also for the service which you shall serve with me for seven more years. 28 And Jacob did so and fulfilled her week, and he gave him Rachel his daughter as his wife also. 29 And Laban gave to Rachel his daughter Bilhah his maid as her maid. 30 And he went in also to Rachel, and he loved Rachel more than Leah, and served with him another seven years.

• Gen 49:1-9 : 1 And Jacob called to his sons and said, Gather yourselves together, that I may tell you what shall happen to you in the last days. 2 Gather yourselves together, and hear, you sons of Jacob, and listen to Israel your father. 3 Reuben, you are my firstborn, my might, and the beginning of my strength, the excellency of dignity, and the excellency of power. 4 Unstable as water, you shall not excel, because you went up to your father's bed; then you defiled it: he went up to my couch. 5 Simeon and Levi are brothers; instruments of cruelty are in their dwellings. 6 O my soul, do not come into their secret; to their assembly, my honor, do not be united: for in their anger they killed a man, and in their self-will they tore down a wall. 7 Cursed be their anger, for it was fierce; and their wrath, for it was cruel: I will divide them in Jacob and scatter them in Israel. 8 Judah, you are he whom your brothers shall praise: your hand shall be on the neck of your enemies; your father's children shall bow down before you. 9 Judah is a lion's whelp: from the prey, my son, you have gone up: he stooped down, he crouched as a lion, and as an old lion; who shall rouse him up? 10 The scepter shall not depart from Judah, nor a lawgiver from between his feet, until Shiloh comes; and to him shall the gathering of the people be. 11 Binding his foal to the vine, and his donkey's colt to the choice vine; he washed his garments in wine, and his clothes in the blood of grapes. 12 His eyes shall be red with wine, and his teeth white with milk. 13 Zebulun shall dwell at the haven of the sea; and he shall be a haven for ships; and his border shall be to Zidon. 14 Issachar is a strong donkey lying down between two burdens. 15 And he saw that rest was good, and the land that it was pleasant; and bowed his shoulder to bear, and became a servant to tribute. 16 Dan shall judge his people, as one of the tribes of Israel. 17 Dan shall be a serpent by the way, a viper in the path, that bites the horse's heels, so that his rider shall fall backward. 18 I have waited for your salvation, O LORD. 19 Gad, a troop shall overcome him, but he shall overcome at the last. 20 Out of Asher his bread shall be rich, and he shall yield royal delicacies. 21 Naphtali is a deer let loose: he gives goodly words. 22 Joseph is a fruitful bough, even a fruitful bough by a well; whose branches run over the wall. 23 The archers have severely grieved him, and shot at him, and hated him. 24 But his bow remained in strength, and the arms of his hands were made strong by the hands of the mighty God of Jacob; (from there is the shepherd, the stone of Israel.) 25 By the God of your father, who shall help you; and by the Almighty, who shall bless you with blessings of heaven above, blessings of the deep that lies beneath, blessings of the breasts and of the womb. 26 The blessings of your father have prevailed above the blessings of my ancestors to the utmost bounds of the everlasting hills: they shall be on the head of Joseph, and on the crown of the head of him who was separate from his brothers. 27 Benjamin shall ravage as a wolf: in the morning he shall devour the prey, and at night he shall divide the spoil. 28 All these are the twelve tribes of Israel, and this is what their father spoke to them and blessed them; every one according to his blessing he blessed them. 29 And he charged them, and said to them, I am to be gathered to my people: bury me with my fathers in the cave that is in the field of Ephron the Hittite, 30 In the cave that is in the field of Machpelah, which is before Mamre, in the land of Canaan, which Abraham bought with the field of Ephron the Hittite for a possession of a burial place. 31 There they buried Abraham and Sarah his wife; there they buried Isaac and Rebekah his wife; and there I buried Leah. 32 The purchase of the field and of the cave that is therein was from the children of Heth. 33 And when Jacob had finished commanding his sons, he drew up his feet into the bed, and yielded up the spirit, and was gathered to his people.
