  • Esth 3:10-15 : 10 And the king took his ring from his hand and gave it to Haman, the son of Hammedatha the Agagite, the enemy of the Jews. 11 And the king said to Haman, "The silver is given to you, the people also, to do with them as it seems good to you." 12 Then the king's scribes were called on the thirteenth day of the first month, and it was written according to all that Haman had commanded to the king's lieutenants, and to the governors who were over every province, and to the rulers of every people of every province, according to its writing and to every people in their language; in the name of King Ahasuerus was it written, and sealed with the king's ring. 13 And the letters were sent by couriers into all the king's provinces, to destroy, to kill, and to cause to perish all Jews, both young and old, little children and women, in one day, even on the thirteenth day of the twelfth month, which is the month Adar, and to take the spoil of them as a prey. 14 A copy of the writing for a commandment to be given in every province was published to all people, that they should be ready against that day. 15 The couriers went out, being hastened by the king's commandment, and the decree was given in Shushan the palace. And the king and Haman sat down to drink; but the city of Shushan was perplexed.
  • Esth 8:5-9 : 5 And said, If it pleases the king, and if I have found favor in his sight, and the matter is right before the king, and I am pleasing in his eyes, let it be written to revoke the letters devised by Haman, the son of Hammedatha, the Agagite, which he wrote to destroy the Jews in all the king's provinces. 6 For how can I endure to see the disaster that will come to my people? Or how can I endure to see the destruction of my family? 7 Then King Ahasuerus said to Queen Esther and to Mordecai the Jew, Behold, I have given Esther the house of Haman, and he has been hanged on the gallows, because he laid his hand on the Jews. 8 Write also for the Jews as you please, in the king's name, and seal it with the king's ring; for the writing which is written in the king's name and sealed with the king's ring cannot be reversed by any man. 9 Then the king's scribes were called at that time, in the third month, which is the month of Sivan, on the twenty-third day; and it was written according to all that Mordecai commanded to the Jews, and to the governors and officials and rulers of the provinces from India to Ethiopia, one hundred twenty-seven provinces, to every province according to its script, and to every people in their language, and to the Jews in their writing and language. 10 And he wrote in King Ahasuerus' name, and sealed it with the king's ring, and sent letters by mounted couriers on horseback, and riders on mules, camels, and young dromedaries. 11 By these letters, the king granted the Jews in every city the right to gather and protect themselves, to destroy, to slay, and to annihilate any armed force of any people or province that might attack them, along with their little ones and women, and to plunder their possessions. 12 On a single day in all the provinces of King Ahasuerus, namely, the thirteenth day of the twelfth month, which is the month of Adar. 13 The copy of the document for a decree to be proclaimed in every province was published to all peoples, that the Jews should be prepared on that day to avenge themselves on their enemies. 14 So the couriers who rode on mules and camels went out, being hurried and urged on by the king's command, and the decree was issued in Shushan the palace. 15 And Mordecai went out from the presence of the king in royal apparel of blue and white, and with a great crown of gold, and with a garment of fine linen and purple; and the city of Shushan rejoiced and was glad. 16 The Jews had light, gladness, joy, and honor. 17 And in every province and every city, wherever the king's command and his decree came, the Jews had joy, gladness, a feast, and a good day. And many of the people of the land became Jews, for the fear of the Jews fell upon them.
