5Shimei Curses David and His Men Then King David reached Bahurim. There a man from Saul’s extended family named Shimei son of Gera came out, yelling curses as he approached.
6He threw stones at David and all of King David’s servants, as well as all the people and the soldiers who were on his right and on his left.
7As he yelled curses, Shimei said,“Leave! Leave! You man of bloodshed, you wicked man!

12Perhaps the LORD will notice my affliction and this day grant me good in place of his curse.”
13So David and his men went on their way. But Shimei kept going along the side of the hill opposite him, yelling curses as he threw stones and dirt at them.

5“You know what Joab son of Zeruiah did to me– how he murdered two commanders of the Israelite armies, Abner son of Ner and Amasa son of Jether. During peacetime he struck them down like he would in battle; when he shed their blood as if in battle, he stained the belt on his waist and the sandals on his feet.
6Do to him what you think is appropriate, but don’t let him live long and die a peaceful death.

41When Solomon was told that Shimei had gone from Jerusalem to Gath and had then returned,
42the king summoned Shimei and said to him,“You will recall that I made you take an oath by the LORD, and I solemnly warned you,‘If you ever leave and go anywhere, know for sure that you will certainly die.’ You said to me,‘The proposal is acceptable; I agree to it.’
43Why then have you broken the oath you made before the LORD and disobeyed the order I gave you?”
44Then the king said to Shimei,“You are well aware of the way you mistreated my father David. The LORD will punish you for what you did.
9But now don’t treat him as if he were innocent. You are a wise man and you know how to handle him; make sure he has a bloody death.”
36Next the king summoned Shimei and told him,“Build yourself a house in Jerusalem and live there– but you may not leave there to go anywhere!
37If you ever do leave and cross the Kidron Valley, know for sure that you will certainly die! You will be responsible for your own death.”
38Shimei said to the king,“My master the king’s proposal is acceptable. Your servant will do as you say.” So Shimei lived in Jerusalem for a long time.
39Three years later two of Shimei’s servants ran away to King Achish son of Maacah of Gath. Shimei was told,“Look, your servants are in Gath.”
31The king told him,“Do as he said! Strike him down and bury him. Take away from me and from my father’s family the guilt of Joab’s murderous, bloody deeds.
32May the LORD punish him for the blood he shed; behind my father David’s back he struck down and murdered with the sword two men who were more innocent and morally upright than he– Abner son of Ner, commander of Israel’s army, and Amasa son of Jether, commander of Judah’s army.
11Look, my father, and see the edge of your robe in my hand! When I cut off the edge of your robe, I didn’t kill you. So realize and understand that I am not planning evil or rebellion. Even though I have not sinned against you, you are waiting in ambush to take my life.
15David said to him,“Can you take us down to this raiding party?” He said,“Swear to me by God that you will not kill me or hand me over to my master, and I will take you down to this raiding party.”
16David said to him,“Your blood be on your own head! Your own mouth has testified against you, saying‘I have put the LORD’s anointed to death.’”
10David went on to say,“As the LORD lives, the LORD himself will strike him down. Either his day will come and he will die, or he will go down into battle and be swept away.
9God will severely judge Abner if I do not do for David exactly what the LORD has promised him,
23King Solomon then swore an oath by the LORD,“May God judge me severely, if Adonijah does not pay for this request with his life!

17David went out to meet them and said,“If you come to me in peace and want to help me, then I will make an alliance with you. But if you come to betray me to my enemies when I have not harmed you, may the God of our ancestors take notice and judge!”
19Now if a man finds his enemy, does he send him on his way in good shape? May the LORD repay you with good this day for what you have done to me.
8For I made this vow when I was living in Geshur in Aram:‘If the LORD really does allow me to return to Jerusalem, I will serve the LORD.
13If I had acted at risk of my own life– and nothing is hidden from the king!– you would have abandoned me.”
8Abishai said to David,“Today God has delivered your enemy into your hands. Now let me drive the spear right through him into the ground with one swift jab! A second jab won’t be necessary!”
25King Solomon then sent Benaiah son of Jehoiada, and he killed Adonijah.
19So let my lord the king now listen to the words of his servant. If the LORD has incited you against me, may he take delight in an offering. But if men have instigated this, may they be cursed before the LORD! For they have driven me away this day from being united with the LORD’s inheritance, saying,‘Go on, serve other gods!’
21Now David had been thinking,“In vain I guarded everything that belonged to this man in the wilderness. I didn’t take anything from him. But he has repaid my good with evil.
29The king swore an oath:“As certainly as the LORD lives(he who has rescued me from every danger),
