13So David and his men, who numbered about six hundred, set out and left Keilah; they moved around from one place to another. When told that David had escaped from Keilah, Saul called a halt to his expedition.
14David stayed in the strongholds that were in the desert and in the hill country of the wilderness of Ziph. Saul looked for him all the time, but God did not deliver David into his hand.

1Saul Repeatedly Attempts to Take David’s Life Then Saul told his son Jonathan and all his servants to kill David. But Saul’s son Jonathan liked David very much.
2So Jonathan told David,“My father Saul is trying to kill you. So be careful tomorrow morning. Find a hiding place and stay in seclusion.
11and Saul threw the spear, thinking,“I’ll nail David to the wall!” But David escaped from him on two different occasions.
12So Saul feared David, because the LORD was with him but had departed from Saul.
17Saul said to Michal,“Why have you deceived me this way by sending my enemy away? Now he has escaped!” Michal replied to Saul,“He said to me,‘Help me get away or else I will kill you!’”
18Now David had run away and escaped. He went to Samuel in Ramah and told him everything that Saul had done to him. Then he and Samuel went and stayed at Naioth.
11Neither man nor woman would David leave alive so as to bring them back to Gath. He was thinking,“This way they can’t tell on us, saying,‘This is what David did.’” Such was his practice the entire time that he lived in the country of the Philistines.
12So Achish trusted David, thinking to himself,“He is really hated among his own people in Israel! From now on he will be my servant.”
3Saul camped by the road on the hill of Hakilah near Jeshimon, but David was staying in the wilderness. When he realized that Saul had come to the wilderness to find him,
22David promised Saul this on oath. Then Saul went to his house, and David and his men went up to the stronghold.
3David asked him,“Where are you coming from?” He replied,“I have escaped from the camp of Israel.”
2So David asked the LORD,“Should I go and strike down these Philistines?” The LORD said to David,“Go, strike down the Philistines and deliver Keilah.”
3But David’s men said to him,“We are afraid while we are still here in Judah! What will it be like if we go to Keilah against the armies of the Philistines?”
14So David said to all his servants who were with him in Jerusalem,“Come on! Let’s escape! Otherwise no one will be delivered from Absalom! Go immediately, or else he will quickly overtake us and bring disaster on us and kill the city’s residents with the sword.”
12David thought about what they said and was very afraid of King Achish of Gath.
1Jonathan Seeks to Protect David David fled from Naioth in Ramah. He came to Jonathan and asked,“What have I done? What is my offense? How have I sinned before your father? For he is seeking my life!”
7So turn and leave in peace. You must not do anything that the leaders of the Philistines consider improper!”
8But David said to Achish,“What have I done? What have you found in your servant from the day that I first came into your presence until the present time, that I shouldn’t go and fight the enemies of my lord the king?”

30Then the leaders of the Philistines would march out, and as often as they did so, David achieved more success than all of Saul’s servants. His name was held in high esteem.
1David Goes to Adullam and Mizpah So David left there and escaped to the cave of Adullam. When his brothers and the rest of his father’s family learned about it, they went down there to him.

11When Saul and all the Israelites heard these words of the Philistine, they were upset and very afraid.
19So David asked the LORD,“Should I march up against the Philistines? Will you hand them over to me?” The LORD said to David,“March up, for I will indeed hand the Philistines over to you.”
23Stay with me. Don’t be afraid! Whoever seeks my life is seeking your life as well. You are secure with me.”
1David Spares Saul’s Life(24:2) When Saul returned from pursuing the Philistines, they told him,“Look, David is in the desert of En Gedi.”
15David said to him,“Can you take us down to this raiding party?” He said,“Swear to me by God that you will not kill me or hand me over to my master, and I will take you down to this raiding party.”
18Act now! For the LORD has said to David,‘By the hand of my servant David I will save my people Israel from the Philistines and from all their enemies.’”
