2We sent Timothy, our brother and fellow worker for God in the gospel of Christ, to strengthen you and encourage you about your faith,
3so that no one would be shaken by these afflictions. For you yourselves know that we are destined for this.
4For in fact when we were with you, we were telling you in advance that we would suffer affliction, and so it has happened, as you well know.
18Therefore encourage one another with these words.
5in that our gospel did not come to you merely in words, but in power and in the Holy Spirit and with deep conviction(surely you recall the character we displayed when we came among you to help you).
6And you became imitators of us and of the Lord, when you received the message with joy that comes from the Holy Spirit, despite great affliction.
10as sorrowful, but always rejoicing, as poor, but making many rich, as having nothing, and yet possessing everything.
6This brings you great joy, although you may have to suffer for a short time in various trials.
12Paul Defends His Changed Plans For our reason for confidence is this: the testimony of our conscience, that with pure motives and sincerity which are from God– not by human wisdom but by the grace of God– we conducted ourselves in the world, and all the more toward you.
10And, after you have suffered for a little while, the God of all grace who called you to his eternal glory in Christ will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you.
2that during a severe ordeal of suffering, their abundant joy and their extreme poverty have overflowed in the wealth of their generosity.

30since you are encountering the same conflict that you saw me face and now hear that I am facing.

12As a result, death is at work in us, but life is at work in you.
13For if we are out of our minds, it is for God; if we are of sound mind, it is for you.
14For the love of Christ controls us, since we have concluded this, that Christ died for all; therefore all have died.
12that is, that we may be mutually comforted by one another’s faith, both yours and mine.
15For all these things are for your sake, so that the grace that is including more and more people may cause thanksgiving to increase to the glory of God.
4For out of great distress and anguish of heart I wrote to you with many tears, not to make you sad, but to let you know the love that I have especially for you.

14Apostolic Ministry But thanks be to God who always leads us in triumphal procession in Christ and who makes known through us the fragrance that consists of the knowledge of him in every place.
