Elisha Demonstrates His Authority The men of the city said to Elisha,“Look, the city has a good location, as our master can see. But the water is bad and the land doesn’t produce crops.”

    15When the members of the prophetic guild in Jericho, who were standing at a distance, saw him do this, they said,“The spirit that energized Elijah rests upon Elisha.” They went to meet him and bowed down to the ground before him.

    16They said to him,“Look, there are fifty capable men with your servants. Let them go and look for your master, for the wind sent from the LORD may have carried him away and dropped him on one of the hills or in one of the valleys.” But Elisha replied,“Don’t send them out.”

  • 8“‘People from other nations will pass by this city. They will ask one another,“Why has the LORD done such a thing to this great city?”

  • 8He said to me,“These waters go out toward the eastern region and flow down into the rift valley; when they enter the Dead Sea, where the sea is stagnant, the waters become fresh.

  • 11As they were going up the ascent to the town, they met some girls coming out to draw water. They said to them,“Is this where the seer is?”

  • 22Your silver has become scum, your beer is diluted with water.

  • 11They press out the olive oil between the rows of olive trees; they tread the winepresses while they are thirsty.

  • 2Elijah told Elisha,“Stay here, for the LORD has sent me to Bethel.” But Elisha said,“As certainly as the LORD lives and as you live, I will not leave you.” So they went down to Bethel.

  • 33He was still talking to them when the messenger approached and said,“Look, the LORD is responsible for this disaster! Why should I continue to wait for the LORD to help?”

  • 1Elisha Again Helps the Shunammite Woman Now Elisha advised the woman whose son he had brought back to life,“You and your family should go and live somewhere else for a while, for the LORD has decreed that a famine will overtake the land for seven years.”

  • 19But the officer replied to the prophet,“Look, even if the LORD made it rain by opening holes in the sky, could this happen so soon?” Elisha said,“Look, you will see it happen with your own eyes, but you will not eat any of the food!”

  • 26I looked and saw that the fruitful land had become a desert and that all of the cities had been laid in ruins. The LORD had brought this all about because of his blazing anger.

  • 26Elisha replied,“I was there in spirit when a man turned and got down from his chariot to meet you. This is not the proper time to accept silver or to accept clothes, olive groves, vineyards, sheep, cattle, and male and female servants.
