David said to him,“Don’t be afraid, because I will certainly extend kindness to you for the sake of Jonathan your father. I will give back to you all the land that belonged to your grandfather Saul, and you will be a regular guest at my table.”

1David Finds Mephibosheth Then David asked,“Is anyone still left from the family of Saul, so that I may extend kindness to him for the sake of Jonathan?”

28After all, there was no one in the entire house of my grandfather who did not deserve death from my lord the king. But instead you allowed me to eat at your own table! What further claim do I have to ask the king for anything?”
29Then the king replied to him,“Why should you continue speaking like this? You and Ziba will inherit the field together.”
30Mephibosheth said to the king,“Let him have the whole thing! My lord the king has returned safely to his house!”
3The king asked,“Where is your master’s grandson?” Ziba replied to the king,“He remains in Jerusalem, for he said,‘Today the house of Israel will give back to me my grandfather’s kingdom.’”
4The king said to Ziba,“Everything that was Mephibosheth’s now belongs to you.” Ziba replied,“I bow before you. May I find favor in your sight, my lord the king.”
7“Treat fairly the sons of Barzillai of Gilead and provide for their needs, because they helped me when I had to flee from your brother Absalom.
6Saul accepted Jonathan’s advice and took an oath,“As surely as the LORD lives, he will not be put to death.”
7Then Jonathan called David and told him all these things. Jonathan brought David to Saul, and he served him as he had done formerly.

2So Jonathan told David,“My father Saul is trying to kill you. So be careful tomorrow morning. Find a hiding place and stay in seclusion.
3I will go out and stand beside my father in the field where you are. I will speak about you to my father. When I find out what the problem is, I will let you know.”
4So Jonathan spoke on David’s behalf to his father Saul. He said to him,“The king should not sin against his servant David, for he has not sinned against you. On the contrary, his actions have been very beneficial for you.
6Now may the LORD show you true kindness! I also will reward you, because you have done this deed.
15But my loyal love will not be removed from him as I removed it from Saul, whom I removed from before you.
2Jonathan said to him,“By no means are you going to die! My father does nothing large or small without making me aware of it. Why would my father hide this matter from me? It just won’t happen!”
3Taking an oath, David again said,“Your father is very much aware of the fact that I have found favor with you, and he has thought,‘Don’t let Jonathan know about this, or he will be upset.’ But as surely as the LORD lives and you live, there is about one step between me and death!”
4Jonathan replied to David,“Tell me what I can do for you.”
21So now swear to me in the LORD’s name that you will not kill my descendants after me or destroy my name from the house of my father.”
25Saul replied to David,“May you be rewarded, my son David! You will without question be successful!” So David went on his way, and Saul returned to his place.
31For as long as this son of Jesse is alive on the earth, you and your kingdom will not be established. Now, send some men and bring him to me. For he is as good as dead!”
42Jonathan said to David,“Go in peace, for the two of us have sworn together in the name of the LORD saying,‘The LORD will be between me and you and between my descendants and your descendants forever.’”
10namely, to transfer the kingdom from the house of Saul and to establish the throne of David over Israel and over Judah all the way from Dan to Beer Sheba!”
22Now it’s your turn to listen to your servant! Let me set before you a bit of bread so that you can eat. When you regain your strength, you can go on your way.”
23Samuel said to the cook,“Give me the portion of meat that I gave to you– the one I asked you to keep with you.”
24So the cook picked up the leg and brought it and set it in front of Saul. Samuel said,“What was kept is now set before you! Eat, for it has been kept for you for this meeting time, from the time I said,‘I have invited the people.’” So Saul ate with Samuel that day.
13Saul said to him,“Why have you conspired against me, you and this son of Jesse? You gave him bread and a sword and inquired of God on his behalf, so that he opposes me and waits in ambush, as is the case today!”
25When he came from Jerusalem to meet the king, the king asked him,“Why didn’t you go with me, Mephibosheth?”
23Stay with me. Don’t be afraid! Whoever seeks my life is seeking your life as well. You are secure with me.”
17He said to David,“You are more innocent than I, for you have treated me well, even though I have tried to harm you!
29He said,‘Permit me to go, for we are having a family sacrifice in the city, and my brother urged me to be there. So now, if I have found favor with you, let me go to see my brothers.’ For that reason he has not come to the king’s table.”
34Jonathan got up from the table enraged. He did not eat any food on that second day of the new moon, for he was upset that his father had humiliated David.
