1¶ Introduction The following is a record of what Amos prophesied. He was one of the herdsmen from Tekoa. These prophecies about Israel were revealed to him during the time of King Uzziah of Judah and King Jeroboam son of Joash of Israel, two years before the earthquake.

9Samaria Will Fall Make this announcement in the fortresses of Ashdod and in the fortresses in the land of Egypt. Say this:“Gather on the hills around Samaria! Observe the many acts of violence taking place within the city, the oppressive deeds occurring in it.”
10On that day,” says the LORD,“a loud cry will go up from the Fish Gate, wailing from the city’s newer district, and a loud crash from the hills.

19To you, O LORD, I call out for help, for fire has burned up the pastures of the wilderness, flames have razed all the trees in the fields.
36Listen to the cries of anguish of the leaders. Listen to the wails of the shepherds of the flocks. They are wailing because the LORD is about to destroy their lands.
37Their peaceful dwelling places will be laid waste by the fierce anger of the LORD.
18I the King, whose name is the LORD of Heaven’s Armies, swear this: I swear as surely as I live that a conqueror is coming. He will be as imposing as Mount Tabor is among the mountains, as Mount Carmel is against the backdrop of the sea.
7Indeed Israel is the vineyard of the LORD of Heaven’s Armies, the people of Judah are the cultivated place in which he took delight. He waited for justice, but look what he got– disobedience! He waited for fairness, but look what he got– cries for help!
3This is what the LORD says:“Because Damascus has committed three crimes– make that four!– I will not revoke my decree of judgment. They ripped through Gilead like threshing sledges with iron teeth.
15How awful that day will be! For the day of the LORD is near; it will come as destruction from the Divine Destroyer.
2The Judge is Coming Listen, all you nations! Pay attention, all inhabitants of earth! The Sovereign LORD will act as a witness against you; the Lord will accuse you from his majestic palace.
3Look, the LORD is coming out of his dwelling place! He will descend and march on the earth’s mountaintops!
4The mountains will crumble beneath him; and the valleys will split apart, like wax before a fire, like water dumped down a steep slope.
4He shouts a battle cry against the sea and makes it dry up; he makes all the rivers run dry. Bashan and Carmel wither; the blossom of Lebanon withers.
8For this reason I will mourn and wail; I will walk around barefoot and without my outer garments. I will howl like a wild dog, and screech like an owl.
10O my downtrodden people, crushed like stalks on the threshing floor, what I have heard from the LORD of Heaven’s Armies, the God of Israel, I have reported to you.
1The Lord Recalls Israel’s Earlier Faithfulness The LORD’s message came to me,
31So I will weep with sorrow for Moab. I will cry out in sadness for all of Moab. I will moan for the people of Kir Heres.
14So I will set fire to Rabbah’s city wall; fire will consume her fortresses. War cries will be heard on the day of battle; a strong gale will blow on the day of the windstorm.
6Yes, a time is coming when watchmen will call out on the mountains of Ephraim,“Come! Let us go to Zion to worship the LORD our God!”’”
2So I will set Moab on fire, and it will consume Kerioth’s fortresses. Moab will perish in the heat of battle amid war cries and the blaring of the ram’s horn.

14Shepherd your people with your rod, the flock that belongs to you, the one that lives alone in a thicket, in the midst of a pastureland. Allow them to graze in Bashan and Gilead, as they did in the old days.
8“I have heard Moab’s taunts and the Ammonites’ insults. They taunted my people and verbally harassed those living in Judah.
30At that time they will growl over their prey, it will sound like sea waves crashing against rocks. One will look out over the land and see the darkness of disaster, clouds will turn the light into darkness.
8So put on sackcloth! Mourn and wail, saying,‘The fierce anger of the LORD has not turned away from us!’”
12“I, the LORD of Heaven’s Armies, say:‘This place will indeed lie in ruins. There will be no people or animals in it. But there will again be in it and in its towns sheepfolds where shepherds can rest their sheep.
