13The slave masters were pressuring them, saying,“Complete your work for each day, just like when there was straw!”
14The Israelite foremen whom Pharaoh’s slave masters had set over them were beaten and were asked,“Why did you not complete your requirement for brickmaking as in the past– both yesterday and today?”
15The Israelite foremen went and cried out to Pharaoh,“Why are you treating your servants this way?
16No straw is given to your servants, but we are told,‘Make bricks!’ Your servants are even being beaten, but the fault is with your people.”
17But Pharaoh replied,“You are slackers! Slackers! That is why you are saying,‘Let us go sacrifice to the LORD.’”
19The Israelite foremen saw that they were in trouble when they were told,“You must not reduce the daily quota of your bricks.”
3Then they said to one another,“Come, let’s make bricks and bake them thoroughly.”(They had brick instead of stone and tar instead of mortar.)
13You are to work and do all your tasks in six days,
13and they made the Israelites serve rigorously.
14They made their lives bitter by hard service with mortar and bricks and by all kinds of service in the fields. Every kind of service the Israelites were required to give was rigorous.

6including craftsmen, builders, and masons, and should buy wood and chiseled stone for the repair work.
9Moses told this to the Israelites, but they did not listen to him because of their discouragement and hard labor.
10Then the LORD said to Moses,
11“Go, tell Pharaoh king of Egypt that he must release the Israelites from his land.”
14Draw yourselves water for a siege! Strengthen your fortifications! Trample the mud and tread the clay! Make mud bricks to strengthen your walls!
15You also have available many workers, including stonecutters, masons, carpenters, and an innumerable array of workers who are skilled
16in using gold, silver, bronze, and iron. Get up and begin the work! May the LORD be with you!”

22Do not carry any loads out of your houses or do any work on the Sabbath day. But observe the Sabbath day as a day set apart to the LORD, as I commanded your ancestors.
17You are still exalting yourself against my people by not releasing them.
7So, now the LORD says,‘You have not listened to me. But you have made me angry by the things that you have done. Thus you have brought harm on yourselves.’
