16I will bless her and will give you a son through her. I will bless her and she will become a mother of nations. Kings of countries will come from her!”
1The Obedience of Abram Now the LORD said to Abram,“Go out from your country, your relatives, and your father’s household to the land that I will show you.

19God said,“No, Sarah your wife is going to bear you a son, and you will name him Isaac. I will confirm my covenant with him as a perpetual covenant for his descendants after him.
20As for Ishmael, I have heard you. I will indeed bless him, make him fruitful, and give him a multitude of descendants. He will become the father of twelve princes; I will make him into a great nation.
21But I will establish my covenant with Isaac, whom Sarah will bear to you at this set time next year.”
27Abram(that is, Abraham).
10God said to him,“Your name is Jacob, but your name will no longer be called Jacob; Israel will be your name.” So God named him Israel.
11Then God said to him,“I am the Sovereign God. Be fruitful and multiply! A nation– even a company of nations– will descend from you; kings will be among your descendants!
18After all, Abraham will surely become a great and powerful nation, and all the nations on the earth may receive blessing through him.
14saying,“Surely I will bless you greatly and multiply your descendants abundantly.”
16and said,“‘I solemnly swear by my own name,’ decrees the LORD,‘that because you have done this and have not withheld your son, your only son,
17I will indeed bless you, and I will greatly multiply your descendants so that they will be as countless as the stars in the sky or the grains of sand on the seashore. Your descendants will take possession of the strongholds of their enemies.
18Because you have obeyed me, all the nations of the earth will pronounce blessings on one another using the name of your descendants.’”

4I will multiply your descendants so they will be as numerous as the stars in the sky, and I will give them all these lands. All the nations of the earth will pronounce blessings on one another using the name of your descendants.
5The LORD took him outside and said,“Gaze into the sky and count the stars– if you are able to count them!” Then he said to him,“So will your descendants be.”
18God had told him,“Through Isaac descendants will carry on your name,”
2Look at Abraham, your father, and Sarah, who gave you birth. When I summoned him, he was a lone individual, but I blessed him and gave him numerous descendants.
3but I took your father Abraham from beyond the Euphrates and brought him into the entire land of Canaan. I made his descendants numerous; I gave him Isaac,
17Get up and walk throughout the land, for I will give it to you.”

7nor are all the children Abraham’s true descendants; rather“through Isaac will your descendants be counted.”
13But I will also make the son of the slave wife into a great nation, for he is your descendant too.”

4May he give you and your descendants the blessing he gave to Abraham so that you may possess the land God gave to Abraham, the land where you have been living as a temporary resident.”
