For King Zedekiah had confined Jeremiah there after he had reproved him for prophesying as he did. He had asked Jeremiah,“Why do you keep prophesying these things? Why do you keep saying that the LORD says,‘I will hand this city over to the king of Babylon? I will let him capture it.

    15Jeremiah said to Zedekiah,“If I answer you, you will certainly kill me. If I give you advice, you will not listen to me.”

  • 2The captain of the royal guard took Jeremiah aside and said to him,“The LORD your God threatened this place with this disaster.

  • 3The Lord Responds to Zedekiah’s Hope for Help King Zedekiah sent Jehucal son of Shelemiah and the priest Zephaniah son of Maaseiah to the prophet Jeremiah to say,“Please pray to the LORD our God on our behalf.”

  • 11He had Zedekiah’s eyes put out and had him bound in chains. Then the king of Babylon had him led off to Babylon and he was imprisoned there until the day he died.

  • 10For I, the LORD, say that I am determined not to deliver this city but to bring disaster on it. It will be handed over to the king of Babylon and he will destroy it with fire.’”

  • 1The Lord Will Hand Jerusalem over to Enemies The LORD spoke to Jeremiah when King Zedekiah sent to him Pashhur son of Malkijah and the priest Zephaniah son of Maaseiah. Zedekiah sent them to Jeremiah to ask,

  • 12“Say to the rebellious house of Israel:‘Don’t you know what these things mean?’ Say:‘See here, the king of Babylon came to Jerusalem and took her king and her officials prisoner and brought them to himself in Babylon.

  • 9They captured him and brought him up to the king of Babylon at Riblah in the territory of Hamath and he passed sentence on him there.

  • 29Tell King Jehoiakim of Judah,‘The LORD says,“You burned the scroll. You asked Jeremiah,‘How dare you write in this scroll that the king of Babylon will certainly come and destroy this land and wipe out all the people and animals on it?’”
