The Israelites asked,“Who from all the Israelite tribes has not assembled before the LORD?”They had made a solemn oath that whoever did not assemble before the LORD at Mizpah must certainly be executed.

    13Now, hand over the good-for-nothings in Gibeah so we can execute them and purge Israel of wickedness.” But the Benjaminites refused to listen to their Israelite brothers.

    14The Benjaminites came from their cities and assembled at Gibeah to make war against the Israelites.

  • 16Look, these people through the counsel of Balaam caused the Israelites to act treacherously against the LORD in the matter of Peor– which resulted in the plague among the community of the LORD!

  • 21Then all the men of his city must stone him to death. In this way you will purge out wickedness from among you, and all Israel will hear about it and be afraid.
