    12When the Israelites heard this, the entire Israelite community assembled at Shiloh to launch an attack against them.

    13The Israelites sent Phinehas, son of Eleazar, the priest, to the land of Gilead to the Reubenites, Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh.

    31Phinehas, son of Eleazar, the priest, said to the Reubenites, Gadites, and the Manassehites,“Today we know that the LORD is among us, because you have not disobeyed the LORD in this. Now you have rescued the Israelites from the LORD’s judgment.”

    32Phinehas, son of Eleazar, the priest, and the leaders left the Reubenites and Gadites in the land of Gilead and reported back to the Israelites in the land of Canaan.

    33The Israelites were satisfied with their report and gave thanks to God. They said nothing more about launching an attack to destroy the land in which the Reubenites and Gadites lived.

    34The Reubenites and Gadites named the altar,“Surely it is a Reminder to us that the LORD is God.”

    31Then the Gadites and the Reubenites answered,“Your servants will do what the LORD has spoken.

    32We will cross armed in the LORD’s presence into the land of Canaan, and then the possession of our inheritance that we inherit will be ours on this side of the Jordan River.”

    33Land Assignment So Moses gave to the Gadites, the Reubenites, and to half the tribe of Manasseh son of Joseph the realm of King Sihon of the Amorites, and the realm of King Og of Bashan, the entire land with its cities and the territory surrounding them.

    24We swear we have done this because we were worried that in the future your descendants would say to our descendants,‘What relationship do you have with the LORD God of Israel?

    25The LORD made the Jordan a boundary between us and you Reubenites and Gadites. You have no right to worship the LORD.’ In this way your descendants might cause our descendants to stop obeying the LORD.

    26So we decided to build this altar, not for burnt offerings and sacrifices,

  • 1Women and Land Inheritance Then the heads of the family groups of the Gileadites, the descendant of Machir, the descendant of Manasseh, who were from the Josephite families, approached and spoke before Moses and the leaders who were the heads of the Israelite families.

  • 3So Moses and Eleazar the priest spoke with them in the rift valley plains of Moab, along the Jordan River across from Jericho. They said,

  • 16To the Reubenites and Gadites I allocated the territory extending from Gilead as far as Wadi Arnon(the exact middle of the wadi was a boundary) all the way to the Wadi Jabbok, the Ammonite border.

  • 6They came to Joshua at the camp in Gilgal and said to him and the men of Israel,“We have come from a distant land. Make a treaty with us.”

  • 13The entire assembly sent messengers to the Benjaminites at the cliff of Rimmon and assured them they would not be harmed.

  • 14The Benjaminites came from their cities and assembled at Gibeah to make war against the Israelites.

  • 12The tribes of Israel sent men throughout the tribe of Benjamin, saying,“How could such a wicked thing take place?

  • 12Distribution of the Transjordanian Allotments This is the land we brought under our control at that time: The territory extending from Aroer by the Wadi Arnon and half the Gilead hill country with its cities I gave to the Reubenites and Gadites.

  • 22So all of you approached me and said,“Let’s send some men ahead of us to scout out the land and bring us back word as to how we should attack it and what the cities are like there.”

  • 16The Offer of the Reubenites and Gadites Then they came very close to him and said,“We will build sheep folds here for our flocks and cities for our families,

  • 5The Israelites asked,“Who from all the Israelite tribes has not assembled before the LORD?”They had made a solemn oath that whoever did not assemble before the LORD at Mizpah must certainly be executed.

  • 3They sent for him, and Jeroboam and the whole Israelite assembly came and spoke to Rehoboam, saying,

  • 16Some from Benjamin and Judah also came to David’s stronghold.

  • 17An Outcast Becomes a General The Ammonites assembled and camped in Gilead; the Israelites gathered together and camped in Mizpah.

  • 8Tribal Lands East of the Jordan The other half of Manasseh, Reuben, and Gad received their allotted tribal lands on east side of the Jordan, just as Moses, the LORD’s servant, had assigned them.

  • 2And they stood before Moses and Eleazar the priest and the leaders of the whole assembly at the entrance to the tent of meeting and said,

  • 16Appointed Officials The LORD said to Moses:
