They came to Joshua at the camp in Gilgal and said to him and the men of Israel,“We have come from a distant land. Make a treaty with us.”

    1 The Gibeonites Deceive Israel When the news reached all the kings on the west side of the Jordan– in the hill country, the foothills, and all along the Mediterranean coast as far as Lebanon(including the Hittites, Amorites, Canaanites, Perizzites, Hivites, and Jebusites)–

    2 they formed an alliance to fight against Joshua and Israel.

    3 When the residents of Gibeon heard what Joshua did to Jericho and Ai,

    4 they did something clever. They collected some provisions and put worn-out sacks on their donkeys, along with worn-out wineskins that were ripped and patched.

    5 They had worn-out, patched sandals on their feet and dressed in worn-out clothes. All their bread was dry and hard.

  • 22 So all of you approached me and said,“Let’s send some men ahead of us to scout out the land and bring us back word as to how we should attack it and what the cities are like there.”

  • 2 The king of Jericho received this report:“Note well! Israelite men have come here tonight to spy on the land.”

  • 15 Then Joshua and all Israel returned to the camp at Gilgal.

  • 6 The men of Judah approached Joshua in Gilgal, and Caleb son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite said to him,“You know what the LORD said about you and me to Moses, the man of God, at Kadesh Barnea.

  • 43 Then Joshua and all Israel returned to the camp at Gilgal.

  • 13 Israel Conquers Jericho When Joshua was near Jericho, he looked up and saw a man standing in front of him holding a drawn sword. Joshua approached him and asked him,“Are you on our side or allied with our enemies?”

  • 19 Then we left Horeb and passed through all that immense, forbidding wilderness that you saw on the way to the Amorite hill country as the LORD our God had commanded us to do, finally arriving at Kadesh Barnea.

  • 1 Israel Defeats an Amorite Coalition Adoni-Zedek, king of Jerusalem, heard how Joshua captured Ai and annihilated it and its king as he did Jericho and its king. He also heard how the people of Gibeon made peace with Israel and lived among them.

  • 9 The men journeyed through the land and mapped it and its cities out into seven regions on a scroll. Then they came to Joshua at the camp in Shiloh.
