1The Parable of the Tenants Then he began to speak to them in parables:“A man planted a vineyard. He put a fence around it, dug a pit for its winepress, and built a watchtower. Then he leased it to tenant farmers and went on a journey.
2At harvest time he sent a slave to the tenants to collect from them his portion of the crop.

9What then will the owner of the vineyard do? He will come and destroy those tenants and give the vineyard to others.
40Now when the owner of the vineyard comes, what will he do to those tenants?”
41They said to him,“He will utterly destroy those evil men! Then he will lease the vineyard to other tenants who will give him his portion at the harvest.”
12Therefore he said,“A nobleman went to a distant country to receive for himself a kingdom and then return.
13And he summoned ten of his slaves, gave them ten minas, and said to them,‘Do business with these until I come back.’
34It is like a man going on a journey. He left his house and put his slaves in charge, assigning to each his work, and commanded the doorkeeper to stay alert.
14But Jesus said to him,“Man, who made me a judge or arbitrator between you two?”
16He then told them a parable:“The land of a certain rich man produced an abundant crop,
17so he thought to himself,‘What should I do, for I have nowhere to store my crops?’
26But his master answered,‘Evil and lazy slave! So you knew that I harvest where I didn’t sow and gather where I didn’t scatter?
21So the slave came back and reported this to his master. Then the master of the household was furious and said to his slave,‘Go out quickly to the streets and alleys of the city, and bring in the poor, the crippled, the blind, and the lame.’
22Then the slave said,‘Sir, what you instructed has been done, and there is still room.’
19After a long time, the master of those slaves came and settled his accounts with them.
21His master answered,‘Well done, good and faithful slave! You have been faithful in a few things. I will put you in charge of many things. Enter into the joy of your master.’
22The king said to him,‘I will judge you by your own words, you wicked slave! So you knew, did you, that I was a severe man, withdrawing what I didn’t deposit and reaping what I didn’t sow?
7But those tenants said to one another,‘This is the heir. Come, let’s kill him and the inheritance will be ours!’
26‘I tell you that everyone who has will be given more, but from the one who does not have, even what he has will be taken away.
12For whoever has will be given more, and will have an abundance. But whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken from him.
17And the king said to him,‘Well done, good slave! Because you have been faithful in a very small matter, you will have authority over ten cities.’
42“Therefore stay alert, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come.
