1The Midianite War The LORD spoke to Moses:
7They fought against the Midianites, as the LORD commanded Moses, and they killed every male.

5So Moses said to the judges of Israel,“Each of you must execute those of his men who were joined to Baal-peor.”
6Just then one of the Israelites came and brought to his brothers a Midianite woman in the plain view of Moses and of the whole community of the Israelites, while they were weeping at the entrance of the tent of meeting.
7When the Israelites cried out to the LORD for help because of Midian,
12Leadership Change Then the LORD said to Moses,“Go up this mountain of the Abarim range, and see the land I have given to the Israelites.
13When you have seen it, you will be gathered to your ancestors, as Aaron your brother was gathered to his ancestors.
25The Distribution of Spoils Then the LORD spoke to Moses:
26“You and Eleazar the priest, and all the family leaders of the community, take the sum of the plunder that was captured, both people and animals.
27Divide the plunder into two parts, one for those who took part in the war– who went out to battle– and the other for all the community.
20Then Moses replied,“If you will do this thing, and if you will arm yourselves for battle before the LORD,
21and if all your armed men cross the Jordan before the LORD until he drives out his enemies from his presence
22and the land is subdued before the LORD, then afterward you may return and be free of your obligation to the LORD and to Israel. This land will then be your possession in the LORD’s sight.
15Moses said to them,“Have you allowed all the women to live?
19The LORD said to Moses in Midian,“Go back to Egypt, because all the men who were seeking your life are dead.”
17Now therefore kill every boy, and kill every woman who has been intimate with a man in bed.
43Cry out, O nations, with his people, for he will avenge his servants’ blood; he will take vengeance against his enemies, and make atonement for his land and people.

9Gideon Reassured of Victory That night the LORD said to Gideon,“Get up! Attack the camp, for I am handing it over to you.
23Israelites from Naphtali, Asher, and Manasseh answered the call and chased the Midianites.
27and he said to them,“This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, has said‘Each man fasten his sword on his side, and go back and forth from entrance to entrance throughout the camp, and each one kill his brother, his friend, and his neighbor.’”

10The Aftermath The LORD spoke to Moses:
14Your wives, children and cattle may stay in the land that Moses assigned to you east of the Jordan River. But all you warriors must cross over armed for battle ahead of your brothers. You must help them
15until the LORD gives your brothers a place like yours to settle and they conquer the land the LORD your God is ready to hand over to them. Then you may go back to your allotted land and occupy the land Moses the LORD’s servant assigned you east of the Jordan.”
14The Commissioning of Joshua Then the LORD said to Moses,“The day of your death is near. Summon Joshua and present yourselves in the tent of meeting so that I can commission him.” So Moses and Joshua presented themselves in the tent of meeting.
5The LORD will deliver them over to you and you will do to them according to the whole commandment I have given you.
7Then Moses called out to Joshua in the presence of all Israel,“Be strong and courageous, for you will accompany these people to the land that the LORD promised to give their ancestors, and you will enable them to inherit it.
52Then the LORD spoke to Moses:

10Laws Concerning Wives When you go out to do battle with your enemies and the LORD your God allows you to prevail and you take prisoners,
28So Moses gave orders about them to Eleazar the priest, to Joshua son of Nun, and to the heads of the families of the Israelite tribes.
