10Because you have kept my admonition to endure steadfastly, I will also keep you from the hour of testing that is about to come on the whole world to test those who live on the earth.
9For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that although he was rich, he became poor for your sakes, so that you by his poverty could become rich.
8So now, listen to this, O one who lives so lavishly, who lives securely, who says to herself,‘I am unique! No one can compare to me! I will never have to live as a widow; I will never lose my children.’
14(The ripe fruit you greatly desired has gone from you, and all your luxury and splendor have gone from you– they will never ever be found again!)
15The merchants who sold these things, who got rich from her, will stand a long way off because they are afraid of her torment. They will weep and mourn,
16saying,“Woe, woe, O great city– dressed in fine linen, purple and scarlet clothing, and adorned with gold, precious stones, and pearls–
17because in a single hour such great wealth has been destroyed!” And every ship’s captain, and all who sail along the coast– seamen, and all who make their living from the sea, stood a long way off
19and if you are convinced that you yourself are a guide to the blind, a light to those who are in darkness,
7As much as she exalted herself and lived in sensual luxury, to this extent give her torment and grief because she said to herself,‘I rule as queen and am no widow; I will never experience grief!’
9But concerning the one who lacks such things– he is blind. That is to say, he is nearsighted, since he has forgotten about the cleansing of his past sins.
13The one who has an ear had better hear what the Spirit says to the churches.’
17Command those who are rich in this world’s goods not to be haughty or to set their hope on riches, which are uncertain, but on God who richly provides us with all things for our enjoyment.
9Those who long to be rich, however, stumble into temptation and a trap and many senseless and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction.
11A rich person is wise in his own opinion, but a discerning poor person can evaluate him properly.
5By your great skill in trade you have increased your wealth, and your heart is proud because of your wealth.
6The one who has an ear had better hear what the Spirit says to the churches.’
3I am also aware that you have persisted steadfastly, endured much for the sake of my name, and have not grown weary.
4But I have this against you: You have departed from your first love!
5Therefore, remember from what high state you have fallen and repent! Do the deeds you did at the first; if not, I will come to you and remove your lampstand from its place– that is, if you do not repent.
21So it is with the one who stores up riches for himself, but is not rich toward God.”

6But you have dishonored the poor! Are not the rich oppressing you and dragging you into the courts?
9You are bound for judgment because you are robbing me– this whole nation is guilty.
3For all the nations have fallen from the wine of her immoral passion, and the kings of the earth have committed sexual immorality with her, and the merchants of the earth have gotten rich from the power of her sensual behavior.”
22When Jesus heard this, he said to him,“One thing you still lack. Sell all that you have and give the money to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.”
