- Josh 17:1-9 : 1 There was also a portion for the tribe of Manasseh, for he was the firstborn of Joseph, namely, for Machir the firstborn of Manasseh, the father of Gilead, because he was a man of war, therefore he had Gilead and Bashan. 2 There was also a portion for the rest of the children of Manasseh by their families: for the sons of Abiezer, the sons of Helek, the sons of Asriel, the sons of Shechem, the sons of Hepher, and the sons of Shemida. These were the male children of Manasseh, the son of Joseph, by their families. 3 But Zelophehad, the son of Hepher, the son of Gilead, the son of Machir, the son of Manasseh, had no sons, only daughters. And these are the names of his daughters: Mahlah, Noah, Hoglah, Milcah, and Tirzah. 4 They approached Eleazar the priest, Joshua the son of Nun, and the leaders, saying, "The LORD commanded Moses to give us an inheritance among our brothers." Therefore, according to the commandment of the LORD, he gave them an inheritance among their father's brothers. 5 Ten portions fell to Manasseh, besides the land of Gilead and Bashan, which were on the other side of the Jordan; 6 because the daughters of Manasseh received an inheritance among his sons, and the rest of Manasseh's sons had the land of Gilead. 7 The border of Manasseh was from Asher to Michmethah, which lies before Shechem; and the border went along on the right hand to the inhabitants of Entappuah. 8 Now Manasseh had the land of Tappuah, but Tappuah on the border of Manasseh belonged to the children of Ephraim. 9 The border went down to the river Kanah, southward of the river. These cities of Ephraim are among the cities of Manasseh. The border of Manasseh was on the north side of the river, and its ends were at the sea. 10 Southward it was Ephraim's, and northward it was Manasseh's, and the sea was his border. They met together in Asher on the north and in Issachar on the east. 11 Manasseh had in Issachar and in Asher Beth-shean and its towns, Ibleam and its towns, the inhabitants of Dor and its towns, the inhabitants of Endor and its towns, the inhabitants of Taanach and its towns, and the inhabitants of Megiddo and its towns—three regions.
- Josh 13:29-31 : 29 And Moses gave inheritance to the half tribe of Manasseh; and this was the possession of the half tribe of the children of Manasseh by their families. 30 And their border was from Mahanaim, all Bashan, all the kingdom of Og king of Bashan, and all the towns of Jair, which are in Bashan, sixty cities: 31 And half Gilead, and Ashtaroth, and Edrei, cities of the kingdom of Og in Bashan, were pertaining to the children of Machir the son of Manasseh, even to the one half of the children of Machir by their families.
- Gen 30:22-24 : 22 God remembered Rachel, listened to her, and opened her womb. 23 She conceived and bore a son and said, "God has taken away my reproach." 24 She named him Joseph and said, "The LORD shall add to me another son."

- Gen 48:5 : 5 And now your two sons, Ephraim and Manasseh, who were born to you in the land of Egypt before I came to you into Egypt, are mine; as Reuben and Simeon, they shall be mine.
- Gen 48:14-20 : 14 And Israel stretched out his right hand, and laid it upon Ephraim's head, who was the younger, and his left hand upon Manasseh's head, guiding his hands knowingly; for Manasseh was the firstborn. 15 And he blessed Joseph, and said, God, before whom my fathers Abraham and Isaac walked, the God who has fed me all my life long unto this day, 16 The Angel who redeemed me from all evil, bless the lads; and let my name be named on them, and the name of my fathers Abraham and Isaac; and let them grow into a multitude in the midst of the earth. 17 And when Joseph saw that his father laid his right hand upon the head of Ephraim, it displeased him: and he held up his father's hand, to remove it from Ephraim's head unto Manasseh's head. 18 And Joseph said to his father, Not so, my father: for this is the firstborn; put your right hand upon his head. 19 And his father refused, and said, I know it, my son, I know it: he also shall become a people, and he also shall be great: but truly his younger brother shall be greater than he, and his descendants shall become a multitude of nations. 20 And he blessed them that day, saying, In you shall Israel bless, saying, God make you as Ephraim and as Manasseh: and he set Ephraim before Manasseh.
