    13ከተማው በሰሜን ያለውን ሠራዊት ሁሉ እና በምዕራብ ያሉትን ሸሽቦዎች ካቀመጡ በኋላ ዮሴዋ በዚያኑ ሌሊት ወደ ሸለቆው መካከል ገባ።

    14የአይ ንጉሥ ይህን ሲያይ ቸኩሎ ጠዋት ማለዳ ነሣ፤ እርሱና የከተማው ሰዎች ሁሉ በተወሰነ ጊዜ በሜዳው ፊት ወደ እስራኤል ለሰልፍ ወጡ፤ ነገር ግን ከተማው በኋላ በእርሱ ላይ የተደበቁ እንዳሉ አላወቀም።

    15ዮሴዋና እስራኤል ሁሉ እንደ ተሸነፉ አድርገው ከፊታቸው በምድረበዳው መንገድ ሸሹ።

    16ከአይ ያሉ ሕዝብ ሁሉ እርስ በርሳቸው ተሰብስበው እነርሱን ለመከታተል ወጡ፤ ዮሴዋንም ተከትለው ከከተማው ተራቁቱ።

    17ከአይ ወይም ከቤቴል እስራኤልን ለመከታተል ሳያወጣ የቀረ ሰው አልነበረም፤ ከተማውን ክፍት ተው እስራኤልን ተከተሉ።

    18እግዚአብሔርም ለዮሴዋ አለው፦ በእጅህ ያለውን ጦር ወደ አይ ዘርጋ፤ እኔ በእጅህ እሰጣታለሁ። ዮሴዋም በእጁ ያለውን ጦር ወደ ከተማው ዘረጋ።

    19ሸሽቦውም ከስፍራቸው ፈጥነው ተነሡ፤ እጁን በዘረጋ ጊዜ ወዲያው ሮጡ፥ በከተማው ገብተው ወሰዱና ፈጥነው ከተማውን በእሳት አቃጠሉ።

    20የአይ ሰዎች ወደ ኋላቸው ባዩ ጊዜ እነሆ የከተማው ጭስ እስከ ሰማይ እየወጣ አዩ፤ ወዲያ ወይም ወዲህ ለመሸሻ ኃይል አልነበራቸውም፤ ወደ ምድረበዳ የሸሹት ሕዝብ ደግሞ ተመልሰው በመከታተሉት ላይ ተመለሱ።

    21ዮሴዋና እስራኤል ሁሉ ሸሽቦው ከተማውን እንዳወሰደ የከተማውም ጭስ እንደሚወጣ ባዩ ጊዜ ተመለሱና የአይን ሰዎችን መቱ።

    22ከከተማው ያሉት ሌሎችም ተወጡ በእነርሱ ላይ መጡ፤ እንግዲህ ከዚህና ከዚያ በኩል በእስራኤል መካከል ተጠምደው ሆኑ፤ እስከ ማንም እንኳ እንዳይቀር ወይም እንዳይመለጥ ድረስ መቱ።

    23የአይ ንጉሥንም ሕያው ይዘው ወደ ዮሴዋ አመጡት።
