They cried out to the LORD, and the priests blew the trumpets. 15 Then the men of Judah raised a battle cry, and as they shouted, God struck down Jeroboam and all Israel before Abijah and Judah. 16 The Israelites fled before Judah, and God delivered them into their hands. 17 Abijah and his army inflicted a severe defeat on them, and five hundred thousand of Israel’s chosen men were killed. 18 So the Israelites were humbled at that time, and the men of Judah were victorious because they relied on the LORD, the God of their ancestors. 19 Abijah pursued Jeroboam and captured cities from him: Bethel and its surrounding villages, Jeshanah and its surrounding villages, and Ephron and its surrounding villages. 20 Jeroboam did not regain his power during the days of Abijah. The LORD struck him down, and he died. 21 But Abijah grew stronger.
