Be content with your glory and stay at home. Why bring disaster on yourself and Judah as well?' 11 But Amaziah refused to listen. So Jehoash king of Israel advanced, and he and Amaziah king of Judah faced each other in battle at Beth Shemesh in Judah. 12 Judah was defeated by Israel, and each man fled to his home. 13 Jehoash king of Israel captured Amaziah king of Judah, the son of Joash, the son of Ahaziah, at Beth Shemesh. Then he went to Jerusalem and broke down the wall of Jerusalem from the Ephraim Gate to the Corner Gate, four hundred cubits long. 14 He took all the gold and silver, all the articles found in the house of the LORD, and in the treasuries of the king’s house, as well as hostages. Then he returned to Samaria. 15 As for the rest of the events of Jehoash’s reign, what he did and his might, and how he fought against Amaziah king of Judah, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Israel? 16 Jehoash rested with his ancestors and was buried in Samaria with the kings of Israel. And his son Jeroboam succeeded him as king. 17 Amaziah son of Joash, king of Judah, lived for fifteen years after the death of Jehoash son of Jehoahaz, king of Israel. 18 As for the other events of Amaziah's reign, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Judah? 19 They conspired against him in Jerusalem, and he fled to Lachish. But they sent men after him to Lachish and killed him there. 20 They brought his body back on horses, and he was buried in Jerusalem with his ancestors, in the City of David. 21 Then all the people of Judah took Azariah, who was sixteen years old, and made him king in place of his father Amaziah. 22 He built Elath and restored it to Judah after the king rested with his ancestors.
  • 2 Chr 24:25-26 : 25 When the Arameans withdrew, leaving Joash severely wounded, his officials conspired against him for murdering the sons of Jehoiada the priest. They killed him on his bed, and he died. He was buried in the City of David, but not in the tombs of the kings. 26 Those who conspired against him were Zabad son of Shimeath, an Ammonite woman, and Jehozabad son of Shimrith, a Moabite woman.
