  • 2 Chr 22:1-9 : 1 The inhabitants of Jerusalem made Ahaziah, his youngest son, king in his place, because the raiders who had come with the Arabs into the camp had killed all the older sons. So Ahaziah, son of Jehoram, king of Judah, became king. 2 Ahaziah was forty-two years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem for one year. His mother’s name was Athaliah, the granddaughter of Omri. 3 He also walked in the ways of Ahab’s family, for his mother encouraged him to do evil. 4 He did what was evil in the sight of the Lord, like the house of Ahab, for they were his advisers after his father's death, leading to his ruin. 5 Following their counsel, he went with Jehoram son of Ahab, king of Israel, to fight against Hazael, king of Aram, at Ramoth-Gilead, where the Arameans wounded Jehoram. 6 Jehoram returned to Jezreel to recover from the wounds he received at Ramoth while fighting against Hazael, king of Aram. Then Azariah (also called Ahaziah), son of Jehoram, king of Judah, went down to visit Jehoram, son of Ahab, in Jezreel because he was wounded. 7 Ahaziah’s downfall came from God, for when he went to Jehoram, he joined him in meeting Jehu, son of Nimshi, whom the Lord had anointed to destroy the house of Ahab. 8 While Jehu was carrying out judgment on the house of Ahab, he found the officials of Judah and the relatives of Ahaziah, who were serving him, and he killed them. 9 Jehu then searched for Ahaziah, and they captured him while he was hiding in Samaria. They brought him to Jehu and put him to death. However, they buried him, for they said, 'He is the son of Jehoshaphat, who sought the Lord with all his heart.' And there was no one in Ahaziah’s family strong enough to retain the kingdom. 10 When Athaliah, the mother of Ahaziah, saw that her son was dead, she arose and destroyed the entire royal family of the house of Judah.
  • 2 Kgs 9:21-27 : 21 Joram ordered, 'Hitch up my chariot.' When it was hitched up, Joram king of Israel and Ahaziah king of Judah went out, each in his own chariot, to meet Jehu. They found him on the plot of land that had belonged to Naboth the Jezreelite. 22 When Joram saw Jehu, he asked, 'Do you come in peace, Jehu?' Jehu replied, 'How can there be peace as long as the harlotries of your mother Jezebel and her witchcraft are so many?' 23 Joram turned around and fled, calling out to Ahaziah, 'Treachery, Ahaziah!' 24 Then Jehu drew his bow with full strength and shot Joram between his shoulders. The arrow pierced his heart, and he sank down in his chariot. 25 Then Jehu said to Bidkar, his officer, 'Take him and throw him on the plot of land that belonged to Naboth the Jezreelite. Remember how you and I were riding together behind Ahab his father when the LORD pronounced this judgment against him.' 26 'Surely I saw the blood of Naboth and the blood of his sons yesterday, declares the LORD, and I will repay you in this plot of land, declares the LORD. Now then, throw him on that plot of land, just as the word of the LORD declared.' 27 When Ahaziah king of Judah saw this, he fled along the road to Beth-haggan. Jehu pursued him, shouting, 'Shoot him too!' They struck him in his chariot on the way up to Gur near Ibleam, but he fled to Megiddo and died there.
